World Thinking Day was first celebrated in 1926 when representatives from Girl Guide and Girl Scout organizations around the world gathered for the 4th World Conference at the Edith Macy Conference Center in New York, USA. The date was selected in honour of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting Movement, and Lady Olave Baden-Powell, the first World Chief Guide, as they both shared the same birthday. Over the years, World Thinking Day grew into a global celebration where Girl Guides and Girl Scouts take part in activities, raise awareness about important issues, and contribute to making the world a better place.
