Before World Refugee Day was celebrated as Africa Refugee Day but later in December 2000, United Nations officially decided to celebrate the day as World Refugee Day. The first celebration of World Refugee Day took place on 20th June,2001. The 1952 UN Refugee Convention celebrated their 50th anniversary on this particular day.
