World Milk Day 2022: World Milk Day is celebrated all over the globe on 1st June. World Milk Day is commemorated to raise awareness among the people about the value of milk and dairy products in our lives. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation started World Milk Day in 2001 on the 1st of June. Milk is an important part of our healthy diet and we consume milk in different ways from breakfast to dinner. Milk is the third biggest supplier of Protein and the fifth largest producer of energy. On World Milk Day events and campaigns are organized to promote the benefits of milk and dairy products.

To celebrate the importance of the dairy sector, twenty years ago in 2001, someone found that a day must be there to celebrate the role of milk, and with the same regard, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation established World Milk Day and since then every year June 1 is known as World Milk Day globally. As many countries were already celebrating World Milk Day around June 1, therefore the tradition of celebrating World Milk Day on June 1st came. At the beginning of the discussion, a date in the May end was proposed, however, some countries were already having a list of holidays at this period, therefore, June 1st was decided as the special day dedicated to milk and other dairy products to show milk as a global food.

The main goal of World Milk Day is to achieve “Dairy Net Zero” by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving waste management over the next 30 years.

The goal of World Milk Day is to promote awareness about the value of milk and other dairy products. On World Milk Day, the benefits of milk intake and dairy products are promoted around the world. The livelihoods of over one billion people are supported by the dairy industry. Milk should be a part of our day-to-day life as it is a rich source of minerals and nutrients that is required for the proper functioning of our body. More than 6 billion consume dairy products on a daily basis according to the Food and Agricultural Organization. In the last few years, India has also become one of the largest producers of milk in the world with over 150 million tones of production and per capita availability of over 300 grams per day. This year, the World Milk Day celebration began with a dairy rally from May 29 to May 31 and concluded on June 1.
