World Heritage Day 2023 History
The idea of observing World Heritage Day was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982, and it was later accepted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1983. April 18th was designated as the date to commemorate the adoption of the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO in 1982.
