Cotton production benefited greatly from the start of the Industrial Revolution in Britain, which saw textiles become the country’s top export. India is currently the world’s top cotton producer, with developing and least developed nations producing the majority of cotton in modern times. The Cotton Four nations—Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali—took the initiative to establish World Cotton Day, which was first celebrated on 7 October 2019. With the support of the secretariats of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Cotton Advisory Committee (I.C.A.C.), the World Trade Organization (W.T.O.) Secretariat, and the International Trade Centre (I.T.C.), the event was put together. It’s a chance to spread awareness about and highlight initiatives and goods related to cotton.
