Why is The SSC CGL Tier 1 Cut Off So High This Year?

Why is the SSC CGL 2020 Tier 1 cut off so high as compared to the previous years? This year the students were shocked when the cut-off for SSC CGL was released. The tier-1 exam took place from 3rd March to 9th March and more than 9 Lakh students appeared for the exam competing for 8,582 vacancies released by SSC tentatively. Factors Responsible For High cut off in SSC CGL 2019 Tier 1

There are several reasons that are responsible for the high cut-off of the SSC CGL Tier-1 2019. Based on the analysis of this year exam and previous year exam, number of students appeared, Normalisation and other factors, we will be giving you an in-depth analysis of this year cut-off increases.

1.Number Of Selected Students 

This year, the number of students qualified in SSC CGL 2019 Tier 1 is 1,25,279 as compared to the 1,50,396 candidates selected in the previous year. This is one of the possible factor that can be considered as a responsible factor for the decline in the cut-off. The more the selected students, the lesser will be the cut off and vice-versa. We can clearly see that last year the selected candidate were more and hence this led to the decrease in the cut-off in comparison to this year, when the cut-off was more.

Reason For Decline In Qualified Candidates

The reason why the number of candidates qualified this year are less than the previous year because this year SSC has selected students for both Tier 2 and Tier 3 as per its official notice. This clearly means that the candidates qualified in Tier 1 are likely to appear for tier 3 as well to minimize the recruitment process  as nearly, 25,000 less number of students were selected this year and it can be a major factor in the increase in cut off.

2. Exam Level

The cut-off greatly depends upon the exam level and as per the sources collected by our experts from our thousands of students, the exam was comparatively easy in majority of the shifts this year as compared to the previous year. There were several shifts where Quantitative aptitude and general awareness sections were tough, the exam difficulty level can definitely be a deciding factor in the cut off marks.

3. Decrease In General Category Vacancies

There was no EWS category last year but this year it has got added and hence the number of General category seats have decreased. The relationship of cut-off and vacancies is inseparable. The higher the vacancies, lower the cut off and vice-versa. This year we have seen the opposite of the relationship mentioned above. The decrease in vacancies has resulted in the increase of the cut-off because the vacancies got divided into more categories than previous years.

4.Decreasing Vacancies and Increasing competition 

This is an undeniable fact that the competition is tough. Students are investing everything that they can to secure that one seat and in this fierce competiton, only those who dream of topping the exam can assure the selection. The number of students appearing for this exam are  rapidly increasing as compared to the  past years. The number of students who appeared for SSC CGL Tier 1 examination was around 9,78,103 as compared to 8,37,000 candidates appeared last year While the number of vacancies notified by SSC for 2019 are 8,582 as compared to 11,271 vacancies notified for 2018.  This has resulted in the increase cut-off.

5. Normalization

This is one of the most important and integral factor that can make or break your selection. Exams in multiple shifts with varying exam level calls for Normalization in SSC examinations. Normalisation can increase or decrease cut-off like rocket as students at times can score around 40-50 marks more than they expect while it can be reverse as well. The exam which is 200 marks often result in  students  scoring more than 200 marks in Tier 1, the maximum marks for the exam.
