The prelims examination is a qualifying stage in nature, The marks obtained in prelims are not counted towards the final merit list. Both the papers in prelims exam is objective type. General Studies II (CSAT) paper is qualifying in nature, you have to score 33% of the marks to qualify the second paper, there is negative marking also in prelims exam. The aspirants will get 1/3 mark deduction for every incorrect answer
UPSC Exam pattern for Mains:- The UPSC Mains exam consists of 9 papers, Candidates who qualify the prelims exam can appear for the mains exam. All the papers in the mains exam are descriptive types. Two Language papers are qualifying in nature.UPSC Mains exam is conducted in a period of 5-7 days, Paper A and B are of qualifying nature, candidates must score at least 25% in each for the marks from their Paper I – Paper VII to be given weightage.
UPSC Interview:- The interview is the Final Stage of the UPSC Exam. Formally it is called the Interview/Personality Test and part of the Mains Examination for merit ranking purposes. The maximum marks allotted for the interview stage are 275, thus the total marks for the merit list are 2025. The Interviewer would judge the student’s mental and social traits by asking questions of general interest. Some of the qualities that they look for are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, a balance of judgment, variety, and depth of interest, leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.
