Example: Corporates have to do more than just allocating funds for skill development initiatives — they have to be out there in the trenches with those they seek to help.

1. Allocate [al-uh-keyt] 
Verb: to set apart for a particular purpose; assign or allot; to fix the place of; locate.
Synonyms: allot, apportion, appropriate, designate, earmark, give, set aside, admeasure, budget.
Antonyms: hold, keep, withhold, keep together.

2. Trench [trench] 
Noun: Fortification. a long, narrow excavation in the ground, the earth from which is thrown up in front to serve as a shelter from enemy fire or attack; trenches, a system of such excavations, with their embankments, etc.; a deep furrow, ditch, or cut.
Verb: to surround or fortify with trenches; entrench; to cut a trench in; to set or place in a trench.
Synonyms: dike, foxhole, gorge, gully, moat, pit, trough, waterway, arroyo, canal, cut, depression, drain, drill, dugout, earthwork, entrenchment.

Example: Schools, offices and tourism had come to a halt due to the bandh, she maintained while speaking on the current impasse in the Darjeeling hills.

3. Halt [hawlt] 
Verb: to stop; cease moving, operating, etc., either permanently or temporarily; to cause to stop temporarily or permanently; bring to a stop.
Noun: a temporary or permanent stop.
Synonyms: cutoff, freeze, interruption, layoff, letup, pause, standstill, termination, arrest, break, close, impasse, stand, stop, break-off, grinding halt.
Antonyms: continuation, beginning, endurance, go, perseverence.

4. Bandh [bʌnd]
Noun: (in India) a general strike.

5. Impasse [im-pas, im-pas] 
Noun: a position or situation from which there is no escape; deadlock; a road or way that has no outlet; cul-de-sac.
Synonyms: deadlock, dilemma, gridlock, predicament, standoff, standstill, box, cessation, corner, fix, jam, mire, morass.
Antonyms: solution, boon, agreement, breakthrough.

Example: This country was constituted under a Constitution whose basic values, egalitarianism, pluralism and inclusiveness, together form what we call Bharat ka darshan or the idea of India.

6. Egalitarianism [ih-gal-i-tair-ee-uh-niz-uh m] 
Noun: belief in the equality of all people, especially in political, social, or economic life; active promotion of this belief.
Synonyms: participate
equality, freedom, justice, commonwealth, emancipation, equalitarianism, republic, suffrage, liberal government.
Antonym: unfairness.

7. Pluralism [ploo r-uh-liz-uh m] 
Noun: Philosophy. a theory that there is more than one basic substance or principle; a theory that reality consists of two or more independent elements; the holding by one person of two or more offices at the same time; state or quality of being plural.
Synonyms: diversity, cross-culturalism, cultural diversity, ethnic inclusiveness, ethnic mosaic, multiracialism.

Example: But this is not all there is to this speedy journey from secular absolutism to sectarian iffiness.

8. Iffy [if-ee] 
Adjective: full of unresolved points or questions; doubtful; questionable:
An early decision on this is iffy.
Related forms: iffiness, noun.
Synonyms: doubt, hesitancy, hesitation, indecision, uncertainty, fluctuation, haze, inconclusiveness, irresoluteness, muddle, quandary.
Antonyms: certainty, sureness, decisiveness.

Example: The question before us is: will the constitutional vision triumph or will we surrender to the ideology of division and polarisation?

9. Triumph [trahy-uh mf, -uhmf] 
Noun: the act, fact, or condition of being victorious or triumphant; victory; conquest; a significant success or noteworthy achievement; instance or occasion of victory; exultation resulting from victory; joy over success.
Verb: to gain a victory; be victorious; win; to gain mastery; prevail; to be successful; achieve success; to exult over victory; rejoice over success.
Synonyms: celebration, joy, pride, elation, exultation, festivity, jubilance, jubilation, jubilee, merriment, rejoicing, reveling, exultance.
Antonyms: disaster, failure, forfeit, loss, sadness, sorrow, unhappiness.

10. Polarization [poh-ler-uh-zey-shuh n] 
Noun: a sharp division, as of a population or group, into opposing factions.
Synonyms: emission, broadcast, circulation, diffraction, diffusion, dispersal, dispersion, dissipation, distribution, divarication, divergence.
Antonym: collection.
