Example: Anti-social elements spreading anarchy in the name of‘gau’ protection.


1. Anarchy [an-er-kee] 
Noun: a state of society without government or law; political and social disorder due to the absence of governmental control.
Synonyms: lawlessness, disruption, turmoil.
Antonyms: calm, harmony, method, order, organization.

Example: 39 abducted Indians may be in IS jail.

2. Abduct [ab-duhkt] 
Verb: to carry off or lead away (a person) illegally and in secret or by force, especially to kidnap; Physiology. to move or draw away from the axis of the body or limb.
Synonyms: appropriated, kidnapped, seized, snatched, stolen.

Example: Muguruza clinches maiden Wimbledon title.

3. Clinch [klinch] 
Verb: to settle (a matter) decisively; to secure (a nail, screw, etc.) in position by beating down the protruding point; to fasten (objects) together by nails, screws, etc., secured in this manner.
Synonyms: assure, cap, conclude, decide, seal, confirm, determine.
Antonyms: delay, put off, disprove, invalidate, let go.

Example: India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar has won gold on the opening night of 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London. He triumphed in the men’s javelin throw with a personal best of 60.36 meters.

4. Triumph [trahy-uh mf, -uhmf] 
Noun: the act, fact, or condition of being victorious or triumphant; victory; conquest; a significant success or noteworthy achievement; instance or occasion of victory.
Verb: to gain a victory; be victorious; win; to gain mastery; prevail; to be successful; achieve success.
Synonyms: celebration, joy, pride, elation, exultation, festivity.
Antonyms: disaster, failure, forfeit, loss, sadness.

Example: J&K CM sees a window for reconciliation.

5. Reconciliation [rek-uh n-sil-ee-ey-shuh n] 
Noun: an act of reconciling, as when former enemies agree to an amicable truce; the state of being reconciled, as when someone becomes resigned to something not desired; the process of making consistent or compatible.
Synonyms: accord, agreement, compromise, harmony, rapprochement, settlement.
Antonyms: disagreement, dissension.

Example: Govt. panel to study cow derivatives.

6. Derivative [dih-riv-uh-tiv] 
Adjective: derived; not original; secondary.
Noun: something that has been derived.
Synonyms: cognate, secondary, subordinate, acquired, ancestral, caused, coming from, connate, copied, evolved.
Antonyms: important, superior, inventive, original, unborrowed, unique.

Example: SC for conclusive proof in graft case.

7. Conclusive [kuh n-kloo-siv] 
Adjective: serving to settle or decide a question; decisive; convincing; tending to terminate; closing.
Synonyms: compelling, convincing, decisive, indisputable, irrefutable, irrevocable, precise, unambiguous, undeniable, unmistakable.
Antonyms: ambiguous, disputable, doubtful, dubious, indefinite.

8. Graft [graft, grahft] 
Noun: the acquisition of money, gain, or advantage by dishonest, unfair, or illegal means, especially through the abuse of one’s position or influence in politics, business, etc; a particular instance, method, or means of thus acquiring gain or advantage; the gain or advantage acquired.
Verb: to obtain by graft; to practice graft.
Synonyms: bud, hybridization, implant, jointure, scion, shoot, slip, splice, sprout, union.

Example: Field trials of ultra-light howitzers in Pokhran.

9. Howitzer [hou-it-ser] 
Noun: a cannon having a comparatively short barrel, used especially for firing shells at a high angle of elevation, as for reaching a target behind cover or in a trench.
Synonyms: howitzer, mortar, ordnance, Big Bertha, heavy artillery.

Example: The test-firing is primarily aimed at collating and determining various critical data of the M-777 A-2 ultra-light howitzers.

10. Collate [kuh-leyt, koh-, ko-, koh-leyt, kol-eyt] 
Verb: to gather or arrange in their proper sequence (the pages of a report, the sheets of a book, the pages of several sets of copies, etc.); Bookbinding. to verify the arrangement of (the gathered sheets of a book), usually by inspecting the signature at the foot of the first page of each sheet or the mark printed on the back of each sheet or on the spine of each signature; to compare (texts, statements, etc.) in order to note points of agreement or disagreement.
Synonyms: adduce, analogize, assemble, bracket, collect, compare, compose, contrast, examine.
Antonyms: disperse, distribute, divide, mix up, scatter.
