SBI PO Prelims Exam 2025 is going to start with the preliminary exam, which will test the candidates’ reasoning ability, quantitative aptitude and English language. Candidates who qualify will proceed to the main exam, which consists of reasoning and computer aptitude, data analysis, general awareness and English. - Prelims is the first round where candidates have to appear for an online test.
- The test comprises 100 objective questions from English Language, Reasoning Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude for 100 marks.
- The time duration for the SBI PO Prelims Exam 2025 is 1 Hour.
- Candidates who meet the cut-off will move on to the next round.
- The Prelims Exam is qualifying in nature.
- There is a negative marking and 1/4th of the marks are deducted for each incorrect response.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern 2025
- Mains is the second stage which includes an objective test and a descriptive test.
- The descriptive test is held right after the objective test.
- The descriptive test has 170 questions from the sections of English Language, Data Analysis & Interpretation, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, and General/Economy/Banking Awareness for 200 marks.
- The time specified for the SBI PO Mains Objective Test is 180 Minutes(3 Hours).
- There is a negative marking for the SBI PO Mains Objective Test and each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
- The SBI PO Mains Descriptive Test 2025 includes Communication Skills: Emails, Reports, Situation Analysis & Precis Writing) for 50 maximum marks which the candidates have to solve in 30 minutes.
- Candidates must achieve a minimum score in each test (i.e., Test I, II, III, IV, and Descriptive Paper) individually in the Main Examination. Cut-offs will be determined based on the number of available vacancies. Candidates meeting the cut-offs will be shortlisted for Phase III.

SBI PO Syllabus For Descriptive Test
The descriptive section of the SBI PO exam 2025 evaluates the communication skills of the candidates, including their ability to effectively express ideas in writing. This section includes tasks such as emails, reports, situation analysis, and summary writing, all designed to evaluate the clarity, coherence, and appropriateness of the candidate’s written responses. The descriptive section carries a total of 50 marks and is allotted 30 minutes.
In the SBI PO Mains exam, candidates must attempt a Descriptive Test, which consists of two questions worth 50 marks. This section includes essay and letter writing, with a total duration of 30 minutes. For the essay, candidates must select a topic from the given choices and write within a 250-word limit, while the letter must be written within 150 words. To enhance their preparation, aspirants should refer to previous years’ descriptive papers for a better understanding of question patterns and writing expectations.

SBI PO Group Discussion and Interview
The final stage of SBI PO is the Group Discussion and Interview. Candidates can check the following important points regarding the SBI PO Group Discussion and Personal Interview below:
- The Group Exercise is of 20 marks and 30 marks will be allotted for the Interview.
- Candidates qualifying for Group Exercises and Interviews under the ‘OBC’ category would be required to submit an OBC certificate containing the ‘Non-Creamy Layer’ clause.
- Candidates should score minimum qualifying marks in this phase to be considered for final selection.
- The ratio of marks considered for mains and interviews is 75:25; Therefore, students cannot take this section lightly.
