Proposed Changes in LPT Norms For IBPS RRB Clerk and PO

In a recent development, proposed amendments to the Language Proficiency Test (LPT) norms for IBPS RRB Clerk and PO have been outlined to ensure candidates are proficient in the local language of the respective Regional Rural Bank (RRB). These changes emphasize enhancing the integration of candidates into the communities they serve, fostering better communication and operational efficiency.

Proposed Changes in LPT Norms For IBPS RRB Clerk and PO

Proposed changes to the Local Proficiency Test (LPT) norms for IBPS RRB Clerk and PO recruitment are under consideration. These amendments aim to streamline the process of assessing candidates’ proficiency in local languages and ensure better alignment with regional requirements.

Current LPT Guidelines

As per existing norms, candidates who studied the local language of the RRB’s state in Standard VIII or above in a government-recognized institution, or possess a certificate of proficiency at this level, are considered proficient. Those lacking such qualifications are currently provided up to six months post-joining to acquire local language skills, with a possible extension for another six months, contingent upon the Board’s approval. However, proficiency must be achieved within the probationary period.

Proposed Amendments to LPT Norms

The proposed changes aim to streamline the process by requiring candidates to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding any of the specified local languages notified by the respective state government. Notable modifications include:

  • Mandatory Local Language Proficiency for Application: Candidates applying for a specific RRB must demonstrate proficiency in the local language(s) of that region.
  • Language Qualification Criteria: Applicants who studied the local language(s) in Standard X or above or hold equivalent certification will be deemed proficient.
  • LPT for Provisionally Selected Candidates: Candidates who qualify through online exams, screenings, and interviews but lack certification or qualification in the local language must pass an LPT before joining.
  • Committee for LPT Assessment: Committees constituted under Rule 8 of the AOER, 2017, will conduct and evaluate LPTs to ensure fair and transparent assessments.
