Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on 7th August to deliver his speech on the New Education Policy 2020. Here we are providing the key highlights and updates on PM’s speech. PM’s speech began with address at the conclave on ‘Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy’ which was attended by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Education, former ISRO chief who also headed the committee which drafted the NEP, and vice-chancellors of several universities.
PM invites all citizen who are part of this conclave and are listing to the conclave to be a part of this initiative to implement the changes suggested in the New National Education Policy.

PM mentioned that all eyes are on the implementation of the new Education policy, and all us need to help and lend a hand in the changes required to implement the new policy. PM Modi has said “as far as the political will is considered, he is totally committed towards the New Education Policy.”

- Does our Education System Empower the youth of the country?
We have to make our students a global citizen, but also they should stick to their roots.
All these points for the betterment of youth and students have been considered in the new national education policy 2020.
Students learn and understand faster in their mother tongue, that is why studies in regional languages is promoted till class 5th.

The previous policy was focused on “What to Think?, but the new policy promotes “How to think?”
The following mechanism is to be promoted in studies, to help students follow their passion and not just the burden of syllabus:
- Inquiry based
- Discovery based
- Discussion based
- Analysis based
Many a times students have to leave their course/ studies to work, or many times students feel that his curriculum is not relevant with the type of job he/she needs, that is why multiple entry and exit points have been kept in the New Education Policy.
No profession is small, and this education policy promotes all kinds of career options for students.
Student Education and dignity of labour both have been focused on the National Education Policy.
New concepts like virtual labs, promoting coding from the basic level, and such changes or reforms have been brought in the new education policy. All these changed will be successful once they are implemented by the education institutions.
Empowerment of higher education system is required and with this thought another word comes to mind- autonomy.
The institution that works more towards the quality of education should be more rewarded to promote the need for quality education.

Dignity of teachers has also bee focused on the new policy and it also focuses on teacher training. PM say “I believe when a teacher learns the nation leads.”
