Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine Updates: India To Start Trial Next Month

The whole world is in the grip of deadly pandemic “Coronavirus”. Almost all the countries are doing their best to fight against this deadly virus. Recently, University of Oxford has developed the  human trial of COVID-19 vaccine that is backed by AstraZeneca Plc has shown a positive result and thus giving the first good news of 2020 related to coronavirus vaccine. As per the British Medical journal Lancet, the vaccine, officially known as AZD1222, prompted a protective immune response in hundreds of people who got the shot and did not prompt any serious side effects. The vaccine developed by University of Oxford has entered into phase III of trial in which the medical experts will dose thousands of candidates to understand the mechanism of the vaccine. The Phase III is the last trial for this vaccine before getting authorized. Director at the Jenner Institute of Oxford University, Dr Adrian Hill, explains the mechanism of this vaccine  by saying that “this vaccine triggers both arms of the immune system. A weakened version of chimpanzee adenovirus as a vector is used in this vaccine that is infused with the genetic material of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The result so far looks good and promising.

India To Start Trial Next Month

Serum Insitute of India is all set to start human trials of Oxford’s COVID vaccine in August 2020. As per a report published in Times Of India Newspaper- The phase III trials of AZD1222 are currently going on in Brazil on thoudsands of volunteers to check and understand the safety and efficacy of the vaccine while in India, the largest vaccine manufacturer of the world by volume, Serum Institute of India has partnered with UK drugmaker AstraZeneca to manufacturer 1 billion doses of COVID vaccine.

As per a interview given by Adar Poonawalla, CEO of SII,” Serum Institute is currently working on the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine which is undergoing phase III clinical trials. The human trials will start in India in August 2020 and based on the promising result of the vaccine so far, we are hoping that the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine will be available towards the end of this year.”

A lot of hopes are associated with the final result of Phase III trials of AZD1222 vaccine developed by Oxford University. This vaccine is one of the strongest contendor out of the three that have made to the phase III trials other two being from china. At present 155+ vaccines are in various development stages. This vaccine, if worked, will not be less than a miracle.
