In the final showdown at the 19th Asian Games 2023, held at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre on a memorable Saturday, Indian archer Ojas Deotale, hailing from Nagpur, clinched the gold medal in the men’s individual compound archery event. This remarkable triumph signifies Ojus Deotale’s third gold medal in the Asian Games 2023, firmly establishing him as one of India’s most accomplished athletes in the tournament.

Ojus Deotale has achieved an unprecedented feat in the Asian Games 2023, securing his third gold medal and making him one of the most successful Indian athletes in this tournament. Prior to this remarkable victory, Deotale had already claimed gold medals in the Compound Men’s Team and Compound Mixed Team competitions.

Precision and Consistency

During the final, where each archer shoots five rounds (referred to as “Ends” in archery), with three arrows in each round, Deotale displayed remarkable accuracy. He missed the 10-point circle only once, achieving a score of 140 out of a possible 150.

Meanwhile, his opponent, Verma, encountered a nine off the third arrow in the second round and then an eight on the second arrow of the third round, placing him three points behind Deotale.

Despite Verma’s efforts to narrow the gap by winning the fourth round 30-29, it wasn’t enough to overtake Deotale. In the fifth and final round, Deotale delivered a perfect score of 30, sealing his victory and solidifying his status as the most successful Indian athlete at the Asian Games 2023.
