IBPS‘s recruitment of Probationary Officer is the much-anticipated opportunity for every banking aspirant and with the Preliminary exam, you are now a step closer to achieve your goal. 
This time IBPS surely surprised candidates and all banking aspirants by setting up a new bar for bank exams. We’ve observed that the pattern of questions asked in each shift was not the same and there were many changes introduced in all the shifts throughout the day. Here is detailed analysis on the changes observed in English section, that can be of great help for all those who have exam on 14th and 15th October. If you are an aspirant who is yet to appear for this exam keep on reading to know in detail about all the changes that we’ve seen so far in today’s’ shifts of IBPS PO Prelims Examination.
In Shift 1 of 7th Oct 2017, topics were:
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Phrase Replacement + Error Detection (new pattern). 

Reading Comprehension was related to the impact of the recession (2008) on US Economy and of Moderate to  Difficult level. Questions on Synonyms and antonyms were also included in Reading Comprehension.

Logical English played a major role and was a source of amazement for students who were not ready for such twists in the English Section. 
Further more, In Shift 2 of 7th Oct 2017, Logical English questions were prevalent .This seemed all greek to those who were not ready for the change and didn’t practice well. 
To understand the twists introduced in English Section read the following examples:
TYPE1: 
Direction : Below in each questions some sentences are given, find the sentence which is not really contributing to the main theme and the of the passage or find the odd sentence out and rearrange the remaining sentences to make a coherent paragraph. If the given sentence is correct as it is then choose option (e). If the sequence is the one which is not given then choose option (d) as your choice
Que.

How to attempt: In this type of questions, all you need to is a thorough reading. By reading alone, you will be able to figure out which part should be the sentence starter. Hold on the link and frame the sentence and mark the left out sentence out. See the correct answer below

Sentence (E) is the one which is the odd one out.
TYPE2: 
Direction:Below in each questions some sentences are given,  find the sentence which is not really contributing to the main theme and OUT of the passage or find the odd sentence  and rearrange the remaining sentences to make a coherent paragraph.

A. There has to be a shift away from large budgets for collection and transport by private contractors, to the processing of segregated garbage.
B. Improving on the national record of collecting only 80% of waste generated and being able to process just 28% of that quantum, requires behaviour modification among citizens and institutions.

How to attempt:  In this type of questions, take a bird’s eye view, find out the common theme which is described in all statements, and  rearrange the jumbled up sentences.  Statement which is not contributing to the main theme of the passage need to kept out. See the correct answer below .

Sol. DEBC is the correct sequence. Statement A is out of context and it does not contribute to the paragraph. In DEBC statements,  Solid Waste Management is discussed.  Whereas, statement A highlight budgets for collection and transport by private contractors, which is not required here. 
TYPE3: 
Direction : Read each sentence to find out whether there is any grammatical mistake/error in it. Choose the sentence /Option which is CORRECT without any errors in it. If all the sentences are incorrect mark (e) as the answer.

(e) All are Incorrect
How to attempt:  Error detection section also gave a horrible time to students in the examination hall. IBPS included a twist here. Unlike conventional Error detection,  Four sentences were given, in which you were asked to find out the most appropriate sentence. While reading the sentences, examine tense , grammar. See the correct answer below .

Statement B and D are incorrect because “Much” is used for uncountable nouns, “Many” is used for countable nouns. Hence use of many is incorrect here.
Further more, On  8th Oct 2017 IBPS again changed its the course. 
This section has again surprised many aspirants with a new representation of Fillers and Error Detection questions.

TYPE4: 
Directions:  In the questions given below, find out which of the phrases (I), (II), (III) given below should replace the phrase given in bold in the following sentence to make the sentence grammatically correct. If the sentence is correct as it is and no correction is required mark (e) as the answer.

How to attempt:  This types of questions are purely based on phrasal verbs and knowledge of phrasal verbs came handy to many students who practiced new pattern English questions based on phrasal verbs and also read all three phrasal verb PDFs provided. TYPE 5: 
Directions : Each of the following questions has a paragraph from which a sentence has been deleted. From the given options, choose the sentence that completes the paragraph in the most appropriate way.

Sol.  In the next statement after the blank, mental illness is compared with physical illness and is said that politicians and people should take this matter seriously. Now in option E) also mental illness is compared with cancer and heart disease that are physical illness and it is said that it lacks effective lobby to match.. lobby- attempts.
