National Mountain Climbing Day is celebrated to honor the mountaineers Bobby Mathews and Josh Madigan. On 1st August 2015, Booby Mathews and Josh Madigan successfully scaled all the 46 peaks of the Adirondack Mountains situated in New York. On August 1 they were able to climb the White Face Mountain, the 46th Peak.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world and Kanchenjunga is the highest peak in India. The first Indian to climb Mount Everest was Avatar Singh Cheema in the year 1965. 15 foreigners had already achieved the milestone of climbing the highest peak of Mount Everest before Avatar Singh. Bachendri Pal at the age of 30 became the first Indian woman to climb the Mount Everest. The youngest Indian to climb Mt. Everest at the age of 16 in 2010 was Arjun Vajpai. During the COVID-19 Pandemic to motivate people for mountain climbing he started a challenge called Har Ghar mein Everest Challenge.
