National Legal Services Day 2022: History
The Central Government enacted the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 on October 11, 1987, based on the recommendations of Article 39A of the Indian Constitution and its Committee. This act went into effect on November 9, 1995. In 1995, the Supreme Court of India declared National Legal Services Day to help and support the poorer sections of society and to commemorate the passage of the Legal Services Authorities Act. To commemorate the date of the Legal Services Authority Act’s entry into force in 1987, it was decided to observe National Legal Services Day on November 9th each year, and the Supreme Court of India declared this day as National Legal Services Day in 1995. National Legal Services Day was established to support and assist women, Scheduled Tribes, disabled people, Scheduled Castes, natural disaster victims, and human trafficking victims.
National Legal Services Day 2022: Significance
National Legal Service Day is observed to educate citizens about the various provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act and the rights of litigants. On this day, each jurisdiction organizes legal aid camps, Lok adalats, and legal aid programs. The goal of the Day is to raise public awareness of litigants’ rights as well as the various sections of the Legal Services Authorities Act. NALSA was established in accordance with the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 in order to organize Lok Adalats for amicable dispute resolution and to provide free legal services to the less fortunate members of society.
