In 1947, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was elected as India’s first Education Minister. He was also elected to India’s Constituent Assembly, which drafted the country’s constitution. He was the Education Minister for more than ten years. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad
- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was an Indian independence activist, writer, and senior leader of the Indian National Congress. After India gained independence, he became the country’s first Minister of Education. He was the education minister from August 15, 1947 to February 2, 1958.
- Our first education minister established the University Grant Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
- In 1920, he was elected to the foundation committee to establish Jamia Millia Islamia in Aligarh, UP.
