National Civil Service Day 2022: National Civil Services Day is celebrated every year on 21st April in India. It is a day to appreciate the tremendous work done by officers engaged in public administration. This day also acts as a reminder for civil servants, working in various departments, for the cause to serve the citizens of the country above all else. Officers appointed as IAS, IPS and IFS are the ones who work at the grassroots level to address various social issues faced by the citizens.

On the National Civil Service Day 2022, The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will confer the Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2021. It is awarded for effectively implementing identified Priority Programme and Innovation to districts/ implementing units and other Central/ State organizations on April 21, 2022 to mark the 15th Civil Services Day. PM Awards for Excellence in Public Administration have been instituted with a view to recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by Districts & Organizations of the Central and State Governments for the welfare of the common citizens.

History Of The National Civil Service Day

April 21 is chosen as National Civil Service Day to commemorate the day when first home minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the probationers of Administrative Services Officers in 1947 at Metcalf house, New Delhi. Sardar Patel in his speech referred to the civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India’. The first National Service Day function was held in the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on April 21, 2006.

Significance Of National Civil Service Day

Civil Service in our country consists of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and comprehensive list of All India Services and Central Services Group A and Group B. The Day is dedicated to all those who are involved in civil service in order to commemorate their exemplary services. On this day, they also make plans for coming years. The celebration on this day motivate Civil Service officers to work more efficiently for the public. The central government evaluate the work of various departments on the national civil services day.
