Lockdown Extended: Important Points from PM Modi’s Speech

India Lockdown Extended- The Prime Minister has addressed the nation today, 14 April at 10 AM and had announced that the centre is finally extending the nationwide curfew or lockdown to fight coronavirus till 3rd May 2020. Many states have already extended the lockdown before this announcement, but now the PM has officially declared the extension of lockdown with strict implementation of the rules till 3rd May 2020.

The PM has said that our nation has gained from adopting timely measures of social distancing and India’s situation is much more stable when compared to several powerful countries who are amid COVID-19 outbreak. “Before the global numbers touched 100, we began isolating people for 14 days. We had shut public places before India’s numbers began rising. When the global numbers were 550, we put forth the 21-day lockdown,” the PM said.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases in India has crosses the 10,000 mark and now this extension in lockdown was the need of the hour. PM Narendra Modi held a video conference on Saturday with Chief Ministers of all states, and most of them suggested that the lockdown should be extended for at least 2 weeks.

The following are the important points from the Prime Minister’s Speech on the extension of nationwide lockdown till 3rd May 2020:

Complete Lockdown: Like many states who have already announced lockdown in Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Punjab, West Bengal- the centre has now declared a complete nationwide lockdown with all current restrictions till 3rd May.

Partial Lifting of Curfew from 20 April: PM Modi has announced all those regions who will abide by the guidelines of social distancing and where the number of cases will decrease, then they could allow a partial lifting of the lockdown in such regions.

Super Strictness for Next One Week: States should closely monitor all regions with strict implementation of rules and must not let hotspots of COVID-19 increase.

Relaxation comes with Rules: But if relaxation is provided in any region and the number of cases is found to get increased, it will be revoked immediately and strict lockdown will be implemented at all costs.

Home-made face covers and masks should be used: PM urges everyone to make a simple mask as protective cover at home and use it to protect yourself and your family.

Health Infrastructure has been Improved Significantly: The PM said that India has come up with laboratories, we have increased bed and more than 600 hospitals are working for COVID-19 treatment dedicatedly.

Work to fix the supply chain: While making new guidelines, the PM has said “we have kept in mind the interest of the poor and daily wage workers. Harvesting of Rabi crops is also underway. Central Govt and state Govts are working together to ensure that farmers face minimal problems.”

Prime Minister has urged the nation to keep in mind these specific 7 points during the lockdown:

1. Extra care of elderly people
2. Follow Social distancing, use face cover, home made masks
3. Follow the guidelines given by AYUSH on improving immunity
4. Must download Aarogya Setu app
5. Help the poor and needy by also maintaining social distancing.
6. Do not sack anyone in your company/businesses
7. Respect Frontline workers- doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, police etc.

Be Very Vigilant: Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended his speech by asking people to be very vigilant in following the rules of social distancing and coronavirus lockdown, wishing everyone a good health.
