The trick to scoring in English section can vary from person to another depending on the candidates strengths and weaknesses. Strategy to clear English language section in LIC Assistant Mains 2019

If you are not so good at grammar, then, try to attempt the reading comprehension in the starting and proceed with Cloze Test and other miscellaneous topics like Error Detection, Para Jumbles, Phrase Replacement, Double Fillers, etc.

While attempting questions on Reading comprehension make sure you attempt question like synonym and antonym first and then the questions that need a deep penetration through the paragraphs. You can expect 10-12 questions based on Reading Comprehension.Out of which 4-5 questions can be based on vocabulary (synonyms and antonyms) or phrases. Rest of the questions would be based on the paragraph.

Coming to the error detection portion there can be a total of 5-10 question based on errors. To perform good in errors, you needs to be good at the parts of speech, adjective, and subject-verb agreement. Some errors may also be based on narration, so, if one doesn’t want to miss out anything then he/she must have the knowledge of this topic also.

The next important topic is Fillers. Generally, double fillers/ sentence/ multiple sentence fillers are asked that are 5 in number. To prepare for the fillers, you should be proficient in the vocabulary as most of the questions are framed from this part only.

Next important topic is odd one out cum para jumbles. You may get to see a total of 8-10 questions based on them. The good thing about para jumbles is that you can manage to do it even if you are weak in English, simply by making use of common sense, as it doesn’t test your grammar portion or vocabulary, you just need to find the connection between two parts. Also, keep in mind that there has to be a continuation in the paragraph when you rearrange the sentences.
