Format Of An Informal Letter

Date and Address: Here, the writer should mention their own address in the letter and  after the address make sure to  leave a line and write the date. The date shows when the letter was written.

Greetings or Salutation: This is the next and the most common way to start off an informal letter with a ‘dear’ and  put the name after that and then put a comma. e.g Dear Shreya.

Text or Body: This is the part where you actually start writing. It is the part where your intend of writing the letter should be mentioned. There are certain points which you need to keep in mind while writing the main content of the letter:

Informal language usage: Though you are writing this letter to your loved one’s but that doesn’t mean that you can go overboard with them. Do keep in mind to whom you are writing the letter. Don’t commit this mistake of writing ‘Hey dude! What’s up?’, to your father but at the same time don’t make the letter boring.

Punctuation, spellings and grammar: If you think that you had written well in the examination but still scored less it is because you must have done silly mistakes because while writing a letter, nothing can be worse than spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. It might seem small but wrong use of punctuation can change the entire meaning of what you are trying to convey.

Use active voice: Make sure that you use active voice because active voice makes your letter sound more conversational and makes it more interesting to read. It feel as if the person is conversing with you face to face.

Put in questions: Yes! questions which you asked in your letter act as a good base on which you can write your letter on. Also, it act as a  motivator to the reader to reply.

Close with a Compliment: It is always good to end something with a compliment so make sure that after writing the letter, sign off in a friendly manner such as ‘Love,’ or ‘Missing you loads’, ‘Love you forever,’, etc. Make sure to  put a comma after the compliment.
