India Lockdown for 21 Days: List of Essential Services that will be available

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation last night at 8:00 p.m. in the wake of coronavirus. He announced the complete lockdown of the nation from 25th March 2020 to 14th April 2020 as a precautionary measure to fight against this deadly virus. The Ministry of Home Affairs released a press release consisting of the list of essential services that will remain operational during the nationwide lockdown. In this article, we will be telling you all those services that will be operational in these 21 days lockdown.

List of Essential Services that will be available

Government services: Services that will remain operational during these 21 days lockdown are: Defense, central armed police forces, treasury, public utilities (CNG, LPG, PNG), disaster management, power generations and transmission units, post offices, National Informatics Centre, Early Warning Agencies, Police, home guards, civil defense, fire and emergency services, disaster management, prisons, District Administration and Treasury, electricity, water, sanitation, States Municipal bodies and offices of Union territories will remain operational through these offices will work with minimum staff.

Medical services: Almost all the medical services will be operational like Hospitals, medical establishments, manufacturing and distribution of medical items, dispensaries, chemists, medical equipment shops, laboratories, clinics, nursing homes, ambulance, etc.

Commercial services: Shops dealing with ration, food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, animal fodder will remain operational during this lockdown period. Also, Banks, insurance offices, ATMs will remain in service. Delivery of essential goods through e-commerce, petrol pumps and gas retail will also be in service. Capital and debt market services as notified by SEBI, cold storage and warehousing, and private security services will remain operational.

Communication services: Communication services that will remain operational are: Print and electronic media, internet, cable and broadcasting, IT and IT-enabled services.

Industrial services: Manufacturing of essential commodities will remain operational irrespective of the lockdown period.

Transport: Essential goods are allowed to be transported. Services that will be exempted from this lockdown are Fire, law and order and emergency services.

Hospitality: All the Hotels, lodges, motels, and home stays that are accommodating tourists stuck due to lockdown will remain operational, medical and emergency staff, air and sea crew will be operational as well. Establishments earmarked for quarantine facilities will also be open.
