Important topics for SBI Clerk Mains 2020
Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude
This section is very important and requires a lot of practice. This section is all about practice. Especially Puzzles and New pattern type questions require a lot of practice. We are providing you with list of important topics of reasoning that you shouldn’t miss at any cost. Though this section is name as Reasoning ability and computer aptitude but from the last two years, no question has been seen from the computer section.
Puzzle & Seating Arrangement– Puzzle is a topic that can puzzle any student. There are different types of puzzles i.e. Floor based, Linear based, Double Linear arrangement, Circular seating arrangement, Square seating arrangement, Triangle seating arrangement etc. Based on the past analysis, in this topic, we have seen that the number of variables have increased. Also, this topic is often merged with other topics like blood relation and Direction Sense.
Syllogism– Based on the analyses of recently held Mains exams , this topic can be tricky. Usually the pattern we see in mains is different that from prelims. In mains, conclusions are given and students are expected to find out the statment from the options, from which these conclusions can be drawn.
Inequality– Inequality is one such topic which can easily give you those extra five marks. Students are just expected to choose the correct option depicting the correct relation between the two alphabets. This relation could be greater than, smaller than, greater than equal to, smaller than equal to and equal to. To increase the difficulty level of these type of questions, these questions are either merged with coding-decoding or Direction sense. For eg- the relation mentioned above could be coded in a certain symbol. Other way is that a certain direction will tell the above said relation.
Coding-Decoding– This is one topic that will require a lot of practice. In this topic, certain statements will be coded in certain language or order and students have to decode it and answer the questions accordingly.
Blood-Relation and Direction Sense– Clear your concept very well. Though these topics are easy but could be made tricky. These topics are examiners favourite topics as they usually get mix with puzzles and seating arrangement.
New Pattern Questions– As you will be appearing for SBI Clerk Mains, you can go through the analysis of IBPS Clerk Mains Examination 2019-20 to get an idea about the kind of new pattern questions asked in the examination. Students had come across to some interesting new pattern questions which were based on certain logic and they were supposed to answer them based on the given logic. Some other topics that were seen in a new pattern in the reasoning section of IBPS Clerk Mains 2019-20 exam were coding decoding, blood relation and alphanumeric symbol series.

It is one of the most important section of SBI Clerk Mains. If your grammar is strong and you have a good hold on vocabulary, this section can easily fetch you some great marks.
Reading Comprehensions– This section requires great practice. In the past mains examination of IBPS and SBI, passages from science and technology, Arts, Politics and especially Economics have dominated this section. In many exams like previous year SBI PO, students have come across to an instance where only RCs were seen in the General English section.
Error detection– Focus on your grammatical rules to ace this section. There is no trick to cover the syllabus for this except practice. You can be asked to mark the correct statement out of the given statements. You can also be asked to reframe the already given statement without grammatical errors.
Para Jumbles– This could take you forever to form the correct sequence if you haven’t practice enough for this topic. Know the correct approach to make sure you are doing it right. You can come across to question in this topic where you have to first arrange the statement itself and then rearrange the statements in correct order.
Match the Following- The type of questions asked in this topic are– Idiom and phrases type questions, connect the sentences with no grammatical error type etc.
Quantitative Aptitude
If you want to ace this section then the tip is to get your hold on the basics of arithmetic topics strongly. There is no way you can attempt even a single question from this section if you haven’t practised arithmetic questions enough. All the topics written below are just different ways of asking a concept of arithmetic.
Data Interpretation- Data Interpretations are all based on arithmetic topics. Be it time and work, Probability. DI is one topic which becomes a source of an experiment for the examiner to increase the difficulty level of the exam. There can be a combination of different types of graph for example- Line graph with Bar graph and students would have to interpret information accordingly. These types of mixed DI can be challenging and time-consuming but you need not worry as it is not required that students should attempt all 5 questions of the DI set; you can choose the ones you find easy and doable and attempt those questions.
Data Sufficiency- This topic requires again a good grasp of arithmetic topics. In data sufficiency questions, examiner basically increase the number of statement through which you can extract the data and answer the question.
Quantity based- These are based on the principal of Quadratic equation but are arithmetic oriented. Hence, if you want to make sure that you excel in these types of questions then practice a lot of arithmetic questions. These questions can be a combination of different arithmetic topics.
Number Series- These can be your saviour and can help you score some really good marks. These questions can be tricky to find the exact pattern. So, you are required to practice as much as you can.
