1 April – April Fools

April Fools’ Day is a holiday celebrated annually on 1 April. Some believe it was first celebrated in 1852. But the origin of this day remains uncertain. Usually, this day is celebrated via making innocent jokes.

1 April – Prevention of Blindness week

Each year the Government of India observes “Prevention of Blindness Week” in first week of April. It aims to raise awareness against the causes of blindness and the ways to prevent them.

1 April – Odisha Foundation Day

Odisha Foundation Day is celebrated to mark the speretation of Odisha from Bengal on April 1, 1936.

2 April  – World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day annually on April 2nd, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about autistic individuals throughout the world.

2 April -Chaitra Navratri

Chaitra Navratri will be celebrated between April 2, 2023, and April 11, 2023. The festival is celebrated for nine days, and devotees pray to Goddess Durga in her nine forms.

4 April-International Day of Mine Awareness

The 4 April marks the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. It seeks to spread awareness about the threat caused by landmines to the safety, health, and lives of civilian populations and encourages state Governments to develop mine-clearing programs.

5 April- National Maritime Day

On 5th April every year in India National Maritime day is observed because on this date in 1919 navigation history was created SS Loyalty, the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd journeyed to the United Kingdom. It was a red-letter day in the account of Indian navigation.

This day is celebrated as World Health Day. The World Health Organisation plans various events and functions to mark this day. It was the first time celebrated in 1950.

10 April – World Homoeopathy Day (WHD)

World Homeopathy Day (WHD) is observed every year on April 10th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homeopathy. The day is dedicated to creating awareness about the benefits of homeopathy as a natural form of medicine and promoting its use worldwide.

10 April – Siblings Day

National Siblings Day is celebrated every year on April 10.  This day is of importance in the United States and Canada. In India, the bond of Siblings is celebrated through Raksha Bandhan.

11 April – National Safe Motherhood Day (NSMD)

NSMD is observed on 11 April every year to create awareness about maternity facilities, lactating women, and also for proper health care given to women.

13 April – Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

It took place on 13 April 1919 at Amritsar and is also known as the Amritsar massacre. On this day, British troops under the Command of Gen Dyer fired on a large crowd of unarmed Indians in Amritsar in Punjab of India. Several hundred people were killed and many hundreds were wounded.

14 April -B.R. Ambedkar Remembrance Day

Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is observed on 14 April to commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar, an Indian politician, and social reformer.

April 14: Baisakhi Day

This year it is celebrated on April 14. It is one of the significant festivals for Sikhs, which is observed in India and throughout the world.

April 14 – Mahavir Jayanti

This is the most auspicious day for Jains and is observed by the Jain community across the world in memory of the last spiritual teacher of Jainism (Mahavir). This year it is celebrated on April 14.

15 April – Good Friday

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On this occasion, people observe a fast visit to the church and remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

16 April – Hanuman Jayanti

The birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti. It is celebrated all over the country on the full moon day during Chaitra month.

17 April – World Haemophilia Day

World Haemophilia Day is observed on 17 April every year to increase awareness about hemophilia disease and other inherited bleeding disorders. In 1989, World Haemophilia Day was started by the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) in honor of WFH founder Frank Schnabel’s birthday.

17 April – Easter Festival

Easter is a Christian festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, three days after his crucifixion. The exact date of Easter changes every year, but it is typically observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21st.

18 April- World Heritage Day

This day is observed every year on 18 April. It aims to preserve the human heritage and recognize the efforts of all the relevant organizations in the field. This day was announced by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 and was approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.

19 April – World Liver Day

World liver day is observed on every 19 April, to spread awareness about liver related disease. The liver is the second largest and the most complex organ in the body, with the exception of the brain. It is a key player in your body’s digestive system. Everything you eat or drink, including medicine, passes through the liver.

21 April – National Civil Service Day

Every year, on 21^st April, National Civil Services Day is celebrated in India as a token of appreciation for all officers, engaged in various public departments in the country, who work tirelessly to run India’s administrative machinery. This day also acts as a reminder for civil servants, working in various departments, of the cause to serve the citizens of the country above all else.

22 April- World Earth Day

This day is observed every year on 22 April to mark the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. In the Universe Earth is the only planet where life is possible and so it is necessary to maintain this natural asset. World Earth Day is celebrated to increase awareness about the importance of the planet.

23 April – World Book and Copyright Day

Every year on 23rd April this day is celebrated to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. On World Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO calls on its partners to share the message that books are a force to address contemporary challenges, to understand political and economic realities, and to combat inequalities and misinformation.

23 April – English Language Day

English Language Day is celebrated on 23 April annually and is a United Nations (UN) observance day. The day coincides with both the birthday and death day of William Shakespeare and World Book Day.

24 April – National Panchayati Raj Day

The Panchayati Raj Day, recognized annually by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj on 24th April, commemorates the 73rd Amendment Act, of 1992 of the Constitution coming into effect in the year 1993. This day celebrates the national local self-governance and democratic decentralization.

24 April: Sachin Tendulkar’s Birthday

The birthday of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is celebrated on 24 April.

25 April – World Malaria Day

World Malaria Day, an annual observance held on April 25 to raise awareness of the global effort to control and ultimately eradicate malaria. World Malaria Day, which was first held in 2008.

26 April -World Intellectual Property Day

World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on April 26. It was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the year 2000 to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks, and designs impact daily life and to celebrate creativity and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the world.

28 April – World Day for Safety and Health at Work

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed on 28 April every year by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). This day is celebrated since 2003. This day makes to spread awareness about occupational safety, and health and looks to continue these efforts through several changes like technology, demographics, climate change, etc.

29 April – International Dance Day

International Dance Day is observed on April 29. It is a wake-up call for governments, politicians, and institutions that have not yet recognized the importance of dance.

30 April – World Veterinary Day

This day is widely observed annually on the last Saturday of April, every year across the world. This year it falls on 30th April 2023. World Veterinary Association was established with the objective to provide global leadership for the veterinary profession and promote animal health and welfare and public health through advocacy, education, and partnership.
