The government is in talks with foreign lenders to provide $14.5 billion in credit to millions of small firms, two officials said.

The government is in discussions with multiple foreign lenders, including Germany’s state-owned development bank KfW Group, the World Bank and some Canadian institutions to …………..(A) lines of credit to small enterprises, one of the officials, who did not want to be identified, told Reuters.
(B) KfW’s India office (1) support the discussions, though the main (2)focus was on credit lines to (3) confirmed small businesses’ solar power (4)generation. The talks were at an early stage, KfW said.
(C)The World Bank’s India spokesperson did not commented to a email seeking reply. The official said the government plans to source up to ₹1 lakh crore of loans from foreign institutions because Indian banks were not in a position to ……………(D) enough capital for the small business sector, which is seen as critical to job creation. “We are exploring, we are having discussions with various funding agencies if something can be done [for small and medium firms],” the second official said.
The officials did not provide full details of the discussions they are having with banks, or ………..(E) all those they are talking to, but said talks are at a very early stage.
India’s micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) Ministry is discussing the proposal — to pull in foreign banks — with the Finance Ministry, which will make a final call, the second official said. The push for foreign loans comes on the heels of the government’s announcement earlier this month that ………………………… (F)………….about ₹700 billion by issuing overseas sovereign bonds.
(G) India’s 63 million (1)economy in the micro, small and medium firm sector are (2)responsible for more than a quarter of the country’s manufacturing and services output, and must be (3)re-energized for the government to kick-start the (4)firms. (H) Gross domestic product growth fell to a five-year low of 5.8% in the January-March quarter, well below the 8%-plus rates that the government is targeting.
But credit (I) opportunity for SMEs, which also account for about 45% of the country’s exports, has worsened due to a liquidity crisis in the non-banking financial companies (NBFC) sector.
State-owned banks have not been able to drive increased lending because they are burdened with more than $145 billion in bad loans. Last month, a study by an RBI panel said the overall deficit in credit for the MSME sector is ……….(J) at about ₹20-25 lakh crore

Q1. Which of the following word given in the options should come at the place marked as (A) in the above passage to make it grammatically correct and meaningful? Also, the word should fill in the two sentences given below to make them contextually correct and meaningful.

(I)In order to spend some more quality time, Simran wants to __________________ her stay in New York.
(II)Unable to deliver the project on time, we have asked our client if we can _____________ the deadline by one week.
Breach
Contemplate
Extent
Extend
None of These
Solution:
In the given blank, “extend” means to add to something in order to make it longer or bigger. Hence, it perfectly fits the blank. Besides, other words given in the options are not suitable for the blank.
Breach- break through or making a gap in
Contemplate- think about
Extent- limit of something

Q2. The sentence given in (B) has four words given in bold. Amongst the given bold words which of the followings must replace each other to make the sentence contextually correct and meaningful?
2-1
1-4
2-3
1-3
2-4
Solution:
In the given sentence, words (2) and (4) seem to be correct. But (1) and (3) word are not giving the sentence proper meaning. The phrase, “to confirmed small businesses’ “ is grammatically incorrect hence interchange is required. Therefore, option (d) is the most suitable answer here.
Q3. In the above passage, sentence (C) is italicized. There may or may not be error in one part of the sentence, select the part having error it in.
The World Bank’s India
Spokesperson did not commented
to a email seeking reply.
(b) and (c)
No error
Solution:
There is an error in both (b) and (c). In option (b), ‘commented’ will be replaced by ‘comment’ as we use first form of verb with ‘did’. In option (c), ‘an’ will replace ‘a’ as we use ‘an’ before a vowel sound. Hence, option (d) will be correct mentioning errors in (b) and (c).
Q4. Which of the following should fill the blank given in (D) to make it contextually correct and meaningful?
Launder
Enumerate
Provide
Evaluate
None of the above
Solution:
the blank given in (D) is suitable to be filled by option (d) ‘provide’ which means ‘supply or equip someone with’. Apart from option (c),
Launder-illegally obtained money
Enumerate- listing or specifying one after another
Evaluate- to assess
Q5. Which of the following word given in the options should come at the place marked as (E) in the given passage to make it grammatically correct and meaningful? Also, the word should fill in the two sentences given below to make them contextually correct and meaningful.
(a) In deficiency of evidences, it became a cumbersome task for police to __________________ the accused.
(b)The government must ________________ the loopholes in the implementation of its schemes enhancing accessibility for those who actually need them.
Persistent
Identify
Educate
Advertise
Perceive
Solution:
The blank in (E) will be filled with option (b) ‘Identify’ which means to establish or indicate something or someone. Other options are not giving a correct contextual meaning neither to the blank (E) nor the two sentences.
Persistent- continuing firmly
Educate-give intellectual, moral or social instruction (to someone)
Advertise- Publicizing about
Perceive- Become aware or conscious about
Q6. Which of the following phrases should fill the blank (F) to make it contextually and grammatically meaningful and correct respectively?
It propose for pulling in foreign banks
Full details will not be provided for discussions
It is planning to source up 1 lakh crore
It is not in a position to provide
it plans to borrow
Solution:
here, option (e) is the correct phrase that can replace the blank given in (F) completing the sentence with correct grammar and meaningful. Other than option (e), all the given options are out of context and do not give correct contextual meaning to the same.

Q7. The sentence given in (G) has four words given in bold. Amongst the given bold words, which of the followings must replace each other to make the sentence contextually correct and meaningful?
1-3
1-4
2-3
2-4
3-4
Solution:
in the highlighted statement, words (2) and (3) are correctly positioned. Though, on interchanging (1) and (3), the statement becomes grammatically and contextually correct. The phrase “India’s 63 million economy’ is not correct neither contextually nor grammatically. Therefore, option (b) is the most suited answer choice.
Q8. In the given passage, (H) is given in italics. There may or may not be an error in one part of the sentence. Choose the part which has an error in it as your answer.
Gross domestic product growth fell
to a five-year low of 5.8% in the January-March quarter,
well below the 8%-plus rates
that the government is targeting.
No error
Solution:
The italicised sentence in (H) is correct both contextually and grammatically. Therefore, option (e) is the right answer.
Q9. A word is given in bold in (I). Choose the word which should replace the word given in bold to make the sentence correct and meaningful. If no change is required, choose option (e) as your answer.
Availability
Accessibility
Equanimity
Credibility
None of these
