All About The Hope Mars Mission

This mission was announced by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of The United Arab Emirates, in July 2014. The missions aims at enriching the capabilities of Emirati engineers and increasing human knowledge about the Martian atmosphere. The Hope probe was launched from Japan. The Japanese H-IIA rocket carries the AMAL(HOPE) orbiter. The rocket was moved to its launch pad at Tanegashima Space Centre on Sunday. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries successfully launched the mission at 21.58 GMT on Monday. It will take seven months to arrive at Mars i.e. somewhere around February 2021. If successful, it will become the first mission to Mars by any West Asian, or Muslim majority county. With the launch of Hope, the UAE prepares to celebrate 50 years since foundation.

Importance Of Hope Mars Mission

The Hope Mars Mission Team is calling it the “first true weather satellite” at Mars. Once in the orbit, AMAL will help scientists study Martian weather and climate change. Regular data regarding daily and seasonal weather cycles, weather events in the lower atmosphere such as dust storms, and how the weather varies in different region of Mars will be analysed and recorded in an attempt to answer the scientific questions of why Martian atmosphere is losing hydrogen and oxygen into space and the reason behind its drastic climate changes. Not only this, the data from this mission will help to clear the picture about evolution of Earth’s atmosphere over millions of years.

The Hope probe well on its way isn’t just the journey of the Probe, it’s the journey of a nation and in many ways the journey of this region. According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, AMAL (Hope in Arabic) is the apt name for this spacecraft because he wanted to send a message of optimism to millions of young Arabs.
