1.Accord (verb)
Meaning: give or grant someone (power, status, or recognition).
synonyms: give, grant, tender, present, award, hand, vouchsafe, concede, yield, cede; 
Example: Namboodiripad himself was Nehru’s intellectual equal and the recognition accorded to Kerala in the comity of Indian States is partly related to the sureness that he had displayed in dealings with Delhi.



2.Arable (adjective)
Meaning: (of land) used or suitable for growing crops.
synonyms: farmable, cultivable, cultivatable, ploughable, tillable; 
Example: Kerala has faced a shortage of manual labour ever since, resulting not merely in the hollowing out of a sector but possibly a permanent alienation of arable land.

3.Obliteration (noun)
Meaning: the action or fact of obliterating or being obliterated; total destruction.
Synonyms: eradication, erasing, erasure, effacing, rubbing out, blotting out, wiping out, removal, expunging, effacement, blanking out, blocking out, deletion, striking out, cancellation, crossing out, inking out, scoring out.
Example: It has shown willingness in the past to live with Israel, but its original charter, marked by anti-Semitic language and unrealistic objectives, was a major point of contention. For example, it vowed to “raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine”, called for the “obliteration” of Israel, and repeatedly harped on its fight  against the Jewish people.

4.Supplant (verb)
Meaning: supersede and replace.
Synonyms: replace, displace, supersede, take the place of, take over from, substitute for, undermine, override
Example: Though the new programme does not supplant the existing one, its key proposals run counter to the old document.

5.Disparate (adjective)
Meaning: essentially different in kind; not able to be compared.
synonyms: contrasting, different, differing, dissimilar, unlike, unalike, poles apart.
Example: Over time, the disparate approaches between the Fatah and Hamas, not to speak of a violent power struggle between them, had substantially weakened the Palestinian quest for statehood.

6.Reinforce (verb)
Meaning: strengthen or support (an object or substance), especially with additional material.
Synonyms: strengthen, fortify, bolster up, shore up, buttress, prop up, underpin, brace, stiffen, toughen, support, hold up
Example: If Hamas reinforces this message of moderation by addressing concerns about its support to violence, other parties in the conflict have the responsibility to respond constructively.

7.Apprehension (noun)
Meaning: anxiety or fear that something bad or unpleasant will happen.
Synonyms: anxiety, angst, alarm, worry, uneasiness, unease, nervousness, misgiving, disquiet, concern, agitation, restlessness, edginess, nerves, tension, trepidation, perturbation, consternation, panic, fearfulness, dread, fear, shock, horror, terror. 
Example: Agenda 2030, a comprehensive development agenda, was adopted in the United Nations General Assembly by member states on September 25, 2015. It  is ambitious enough to address several socioeconomic concerns and make the development process inclusive. However, since it’s not binding on  member nations, there is apprehension that it may end up becoming another of  the Millennium Development Goals, which were only partially achieved. 

8.Languish (verb)
Meaning: (of a person, animal, or plant) lose or lack vitality; grow weak.
synonyms: weaken, grow weak, deteriorate, decline, go into a decline;
Example: On the one hand, an exhibition on Feluda, the fictional Kolkata-based detective created by the master, has received tremendous response. On the other hand, the Calcutta Film Society, set up by Ray in 1947, languishes in a state of neglect due to paucity of funds.

9.Nominal (adjective)
Meaning: (of a price or charge) very small; far below the real value or cost.
synonyms: token, symbolic, emblematic, peppercorn; 
Example: Mr. Sen said that the society has about 200 life members who make a nominal one-time yearly contribution. He expressed the hope that the government would recognise the society as having heritage value, or that new members would join to keep it afloat. 

10.Procurement (noun)
Meaning: the action of obtaining or procuring something.
Example: The net assistance expected from the Centre’s decision is a maximum of ₹26.5 crore although the State government has estimated procurement of material worth ₹502.59 crore under the MIS. As a special case, irrespective of MIS, the assistance would be over ₹1,800 crore, official sources said.
