Happy 71 st Republic Day: All Facts You Should Know About 26 January

India is gearing up for the 71st Republic Day with great zeal. It is of great significance in the history of democracy of the country. It was on January 26, 1950 that the largest constitution of the world was enforced in India. India became a Republican state, “For the people, by the people.” The constitution assured the people of liberal rights and duties guaranteed through the Preamble. 

Background

On 26 January 1950, the Constitution of India came into force with a democratic government system, completing the country’s transition towards becoming an independent Republic. and from this time 26 January is celebrated as the Republic Day. It replaces the Government of India Act, 1935.

Republic Day Celebration

The main attraction of this day is the Republic Day Parade in the capital state of New Delhi. The entire nation take part in the yearly event presided by the President and Prime Minister of India. The parade begins from Rajghat.

Our Army, Navy, and Air force forces march their way saluting the freedom fighters and the eminent personalities on the dias. The horse-march is another important part of the celebration of Republic Day in New Delhi. National Cadet Corps (NCC) and selected scout boys are part of the event. The parade is followed with regional dances, patriotic songs, and military bike shows.

The Prime Minister of India lays a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, in memory of all members of the armed forces who gave up their life for the country to start the parade. After that, there is 21 gun salute, unfurling of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem followed by the awards such as the Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra and Vir Chakra are presented to gallantry award winners.
