There is negative marking of 1/4th per question. Also, there is sectional cut-off as well as sectional timing in the IBPS Clerk Mains Exam.

The section of English for IBPS Clerk 2019 carries a total of 40 question with a total score of 40 marks and 35 minutes sectional timing. English Section basically contains questions which requires grammar knowledge. Grammar is necessary to score well as it forms the backbone of the English Language. IBPS Clerk Mains Exam has 4 sections in total. Out of which English is the one that has its relevance in both preliminary and mains exam. To ace this section, grammar knowledge is necessary.
- Go through the Previous Year Paper first to understand the type of question asked in the examination.
- Read newspaper and passages. You can also pick fictional/ Non-fictional books. Newspaper will help in not only improving your English language skills but also helps in GA section.
- Start with ‘Article‘ as it is the most important and easiest part of grammar. Practice at least 20-30 questions that is in mock and previous year paper to clear your concept.
- After Article, you can go for preposition, it is generally asked in fillers and can be easily aced if understood properly.
- Work on the tenses as most of the times error spotting is due to the wrong tense. Tense dictates the verb. It defines the timeline of action. You have to memorise the verb forms.
- Prepositions: Preposition brings out the relationship of an object to its surroundings. Preposition is always followed by the object of the sentence. So first the P and then the O. Strictly speaking, you should never end a sentence in preposition.The most common preposition on which the question are asked is ‘Of’ and ‘with’.
- Question Tag: Questions tags are always opposite in sense to the question. If the question is positive, the tag will be negative.
- Conjunctions and Verb comes after that. You can easily make a go in these topics as soon as you are done with the basic concept.
- Voice: Active voice is simple to frame and speak. Active voice has a subject as the doer of the action. Remember that whenever you change a sentence from active to passive voice, the subject and the object swap. And if that involves the pronouns, they will swap to their relative object or subject pronoun form.
- You have to anyhow know the basic concept, after that you can use some IBPS Clerk English shortcuts that will be applied only when you practice 20-25 questions of each topic.
