GOI sets up a Special cell for Indians in Afghanistan
As Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan’s presidential palace after some hours of the insurgency entered the Afghan capital Kabul. President of Ashraf Ghani ran away from the country. UN Security Council arranged a meeting to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
Dr. S Jaishankar, the External affairs minister said the government is continuously monitoring the situation in Kabul and the government understands the feeling of left out persons and their anxiety. He also said that airport operations are the main challenge and the government is trying to resolve it by discussing it with partners. It is very important to set up a special cell to coordinate for repatriation from war-torn countries that they have accurate information about Indians there.
The government of India is constantly in touch with the Sikh community leaders and Hindu community leaders living in Kabul. The government is working on their welfare with their priority attention.
IAF C-17 aircraft which fled to Kabul for evacuation of Indians has just landed in Jamnagar, Gujarat. It evacuates 120 officials from Kabul by easing the process done by India as India has announced a new category of visas to fast-track the applications of Afghans.
The US had to temporarily halt all evacuation flights from Kabul to clear people who had come together on their airfield. The Kabul airport has witnessed fear and anxiety by threatening great harm scenes of thousands of people flooding the premises and even sticking to planes on the runway in desperation to get out of the country. The US said that Airport in Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport has re-started its operations.
As the Taliban declared victory after collapsing the government of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. US president Joe Biden has said that he remains firm straightforwardly behind his decision to withdraw US forces from Afghanistan and that the government’s collapse was quicker than anticipated. This statement of the US president comes in amid the criticism of the US president over the Taliban’s lightning seduction of the war-torn country.
