Global immunization strategy by WHO
UN-led global immunization strategy was unveiled by WHO (World Health Organisation)for reaching out to more than 50 million children who have missed lifesaving jabs against measles and other infectious diseases because of COVID-19 disruption.
WHO and UNICEF united with the vaccine alliance GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization) and making their new global strategy to save 50 million lives within less than a decade which means by the end of 2030.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, to prevent and avoid multiple outbreaks of diseases like measles, yellow fever, and diphtheria which are life-threatening, it must be ensured that routine vaccination services are protected in every country in the world as per the scheduled time of period.
WHO’s survey showed that more than one-third of countries of the world face disruptions in their routine immunization services. The statement jointly given showed that around 60 mass vaccination campaigns are currently postponed in 50 countries which are putting around 228 million people in which mostly are children, at risk of diseases like measles and polio.
