Global Day of Parents 2020: Parents do a lot for their kids and during this time when the coronavirus has taken over the world, this day brings the families closer and helps them to overcome the negative consequences of it. It is a day to appreciate parents for their hard work and efforts they do every day for their children. In India especially, where parents are considered equivalent to god because the work done by parents is no less than of a god. In circumstances like this everyday so many parents go out of their houses risking their lives just to fulfill the needs of their children. They love their kid’s selflessly.

What is the Global Day of Parents?
Since the 1980s, the importance of the family has increasingly come to the attention of the international community. The contribution of a family in terms of emotional, physical, and monetary support they provide to each other and help in growth cannot be undermined in and that is why The General Assembly adopted many resolutions and proclaimed the International Year of the Family and the International Day of Families.
Parents are pillars of a family and emphasizing on the critical role of parents in the rearing of children, the Global Day of Parents recognizes that the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children and this chain helps in building a strong world. For the full and harmonious development of their personality, children need to grow up in a family environment and an atmosphere of happiness, love, and understanding.
In 2012, designated by the General Assembly, Global Day of Parents provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents around the world for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.”

History
It was around the 1980s that the United Nations began focusing attention on the issues related to the family. Based on the recommendation of the economic and social council in 1983, the Commission for Social Development in its resolution on the Role of the family in the development process (1983/23) requested the Secretary-General to the enhance awareness among decision-makers related to this and the public of the problems and needs of the family, as well as of effective ways of meeting those needs.
In its resolution 44/82 of 9 December 1989 that the decision was taken by The General Assembly which was proclaimed in 1994 as the International Year of the Family; and in resolution 47/237 of 1993, the General Assembly decided unanimously that 15 May of every year to be observed as the International Day of Families.
In 2012, the decision by the General Assembly proclaimed 1 June as the Global Day of Parents, to be observed annually in honor of parents throughout the world.
