English Section Strategy For IBPS Clerk 2020 Preparation
Given below are some of the topics that are frequently asked in IBPS Clerk examination along with the tips that will be helpful for you to ace these topics:
Reading Comprehension (10 Questions)- For the reading comprehension part, there are no specific tricks, one just has to be good at reading. The best way to excel in this topic is by improving your reading skills by daily reading newspapers, articles, etc. One important thing before attempting this section is that one should first go through the questions asked because that will give you an idea as to what you should focus on while reading.
Cloze Test (5 Questions) – One paragraph will be given with numbered blanks, it is generally an easy part. One can easily score full marks in this section. Just give it a thorough reading in the beginning and then start attempting. If there is a doubt in any question then mark it and move ahead and attempt that in the end when there is time.
Spot the errors (5 Questions)- Firstly, you should read the sentence carefully because most of the times its just a minor mistake that we miss. While reading one should carefully check the subject-verb agreement. Usually the error can be detected in a single reading but if you are not able to find the error then read every part again carefully. It is a simple topic, and sometimes you’re asked to fill more than one blank. Use the method of elimination by simultaneously checking which of the option best satisfies the blank(s). Also make sure that the word you have selected enables you to read the sentence smoothly and correctly.
Para Jumbles (5 Questions) – This consists of group of sentences jumbled together and you have to rearrange them in a sequence. First, read all the sentences and get a central idea and then try to create a link between sentences. Try to identify the beginning or the first sentence as it will make it easy to find a logical pattern between sentences. Usually all the sentences combined form a paragraph so identifying the ending and beginning won’t be a difficult task. Just identify the pattern.
Sentence Corrections (5 Questions) – In this you have to find the correct alternatives and sometimes there isn’t any correction to make. Read the original sentence and look for grammatical errors by identifying it sounds right or not. Just to be sure read all the options once. Same elimination method can be used here, check the original sentence then look at the options and pick the right one.
Apart from all this make a habit of reading newspapers daily, and learn new words i.e. improve your vocabulary because it will help a lot while solving fill in the blanks, antonym-synonym questions also. Also try to begin with the part you are more confident at solving. Reading comprehension should be attempted in the end because it may take time to read the full passage.
