In (II), the usage of ‘has’, which follows ‘I’ and that of ‘though’, which precedes the phrase ‘any way’, is incorrect. ‘Has’ isn’t used with ‘I’. Moreover, the context of the sentence suggests that the tense of the sentence is past tense. So, the correct phrase should be ‘I looked up’. Moreover, the usage of the verb ‘excites’ in its Simple Present form imparts a Simple Present Tense to the sentence which should be wrong from a contextual point of view since the sentence is talking about the interest of the scientists who lived in the 19th-20th century.
So, (I) is erroneous.
