Deadly exchange of fire by Israel and Palestine in Gaza Strip
The deadly exchange of fire has intensified between Palestinian militants and the Israeli military in the Gaza strip. According to media reports, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Gaza and Palestinian militants fired multiple rocket barrages at Tel Aviv and the southern city of Beersheba.
An Indian woman who was a native of Kerala state was also killed in a rocket attack in the Israeli city of Ashkelon. Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said attacks on Palestinian militant groups in Gaza might be continued until they bring total, long-term quiet and that such military action would preclude any ceasefire agreement.
The international community has suggested both sides end the intensification, amid concerns it could spiral out of control. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was in earnest concerned by the ongoing violence.
US President Joe Biden has spoken to the Prime Minister of Israel-Benjamin Netanyahu on the issue of the Israel-Palestine conflict. He hoped that the hostilities will come to a conclusion soon. He also said to the media that, Israel has a right to defend itself when thousands of rockets are flying into their territory. Mr. Biden criticized the rocket attacks by Hamas and other terrorist groups. He announced his unwavering support for Israel’s security and for Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself and its people, while protecting the civilians.
