I. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a campaign through which people can send their Diwali greetings and messages to the soldiers to boost their morale.
II. The messages can be sent under the #Sandesh2Soldiers campaign on the Narendra Modi App, through MyGov.in, and also through All India Radio. PM Modi will be leading the campaign.

Aviation scheme UDAN(Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) takes off
I. The Centre unveiled a regional connectivity scheme, known as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), with flights priced at Rs.2,500 for one hour of flying time to and from regional airports.
II. Under the scheme, airlines will be offered a slew of sops at smaller airports such as waiver of landing and parking charges.
Mehar Mittal, legend of comedy in Punjabi movies, passes away
I. Veteran Punjabi actor Mehar Mittal, who acquired legendary status with his comic roles, passed away at a hospital in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, on 22nd October 2016 after prolonged illness. He was to turn 81 on October 24, 2016.
II. Mittal has been a well-known face in Punjabi movies for over four decades. He worked in more than 100 movies and ruled the small screen too.

ICICI, Axis, StanChart get back $2.5 bn of Essar loans
I. Within days of Essar Group signing a mega USD 12.9-billion asset sale in its oil business, three top lenders – ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and StanChart, have got back an estimated USD 2.5 billion as part of the first payment for their debt exposure to the Ruias-led conglomerate.
II. The two Indian lenders which together had an exposure of USD 1.5 billion, will get back nearly half of their money or about USD 770 million in cash while further USD 750 million of debt will get transferred to Rosneft-led consortium and Essar’s ports and other businesses, as per the terms agreed upon by them.
Aditya Birla Group to invest Rs. 20,000 cr in Madhya Pradesh

Power Grid’s board approves investments of Rs1k crore
I. Power Grid Corporation has said that its board has approved three proposals to invest Rs1,184.45 crore in power transmission projects across the country.
II. The proposals included augmenting the transformation capacity in the southern region, sub-station works in Vemagiri in Andhra Pradesh, and a transmission system for Ultra Mega Solar Park at Tumkur in Karnataka.
President inaugurates Sardar Patel Heart Institute at Ankleshwar
