4. Russian Arms Supplies to India Worth $13 bn in past 5 years

  • Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways and IT, introduced the QR code at the India Habitat Center’s “Digital Payment Utsav.”
  • Paytm was a key player in the development of mobile payments in India and is regarded as the inventor of QR code payments.
  • The “DigiDhan Mission” logo from MeitY, the G20 2023 logo, and the 75th anniversary of India’s independence are all included in the special commemorative QR code.
  • Paytm is hosting a special event called “Digital Payments Utsav” in which a branded automobile will tour different parts of Delhi with active audience engagement.

9. 12th World Hindi Conference Inaugurated at Fiji

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to inaugurate the three-day event’ the 12th World Hindi Conference on 15th February at the Pacific Island nation.
  • The 12th World Hindi Conference, scheduled to be held at Nadi from 15th February to 17th February 2023, will be on the theme “Hindi – Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence”.
  • The conference will be spread over one plenary session and ten parallel sessions on topics such as Hindi in Girmitiya countries, Hindi in Fiji and the Pacific, Information Technology, and Hindi in the 21st century.
  • It also includes topics such as Media and the global perception of Hindi; global reference to Indian knowledge traditions and Hindi; Linguistic coordination and Hindi translation.
  • Parallel sessions on different forms of Hindi cinema and the global scenario, global market and Hindi, Pravasi Hindi literature in the changing scenario, and Hindi teaching in India and abroad, challenges and solutions will also be held.

10. Annual Meeting of Members of the River Cities Alliance ‘DHARA’ to be held in Pune

11. President of India Inaugurated the 2nd Indian Rice Congress at Cuttack

  • President Murmu informed that India is the leading consumer and exporter of rice, for which a lot of credit goes to the institute, but when the country became independent, the situation was different.
  • In the inauguration ceremony the President informed that as irrigation facilities expanded in the last century, rice was grown in new places and found new consumers. Paddy crop requires large amounts of water, but many parts of the world are facing severe water scarcity due to climate change.

  • The day commemorates Hakim Ajmal Khan’s contribution to the growth of Unani medicine in India and throughout the world. Hakim Ajmal Khan, who was born on February 11, 1868, was an educator, a Unani physician, and the founder of scientific study in the Unani system of medicine.
  • On February 10 and 11, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, host an international conference on Unani medicine in a hybrid virtual mode with the theme “Unani Medicine for Public Health” in Delhi.
  • The conference’s main goal is to debate the value of using Unani medicine to treat non-communicable illnesses and other chronic conditions while also enabling public health experts to work together, think outside the box, and influence the direction of public health with Unani medicine.

15. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari awarded with Maharashtra Bhushan award

  • The state government of Maharashtra has announced that renowned social worker, preacher and reformer Dattatreya alias Appasaheb Dharmadikari will be honoured with Maharashtra Bhushan award for the year 2022.
  • The Maharashtra Bhushan award comprises a medal, a citation and Rs 25 lakh, which will be conferred to Appasaheb at a function later in the year. Appasaheb was honoured with Padmashri in 2017.
  • Nanasaheb, also known as the ambassador of cleanliness, trust has been undertaking various programmes, including environment-friendly initiatives like production of fertilisers through remains of Ganesh idols after visarjan.
  • The Maharashtra Bhushan is a highest civilian award presented annually by the Government of Maharashtra State in India.

16. Angela Merkel awarded UNESCO Peace Prize in Ivory Coast

  • For her assistance to refugees in Germany, former German chancellor Angela Merkel was awarded the UNESCO peace prize. According to Politico, the former German leader received the UN prize for her choice to accept the refugees into German territory back in 2015.
  • The occasion took place in Yamoussoukro, the capital of the Ivory Coast, where the chancellor received the “Felix Houphout-Boigny UNESCO Peace Prize.” Merkel thanked the jurors and spoke about the fate of Ukrainian refugees in her acceptance speech.
  • The 68-year-old lawmaker was complimented for her work by the award jury’s president, Denis Mukwege, a year prior to receiving the honour.
  • Her selfless choice in 2015 to accept more than 1,2 million refugees, particularly those from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Eritrea, moved every jury member.
