i. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the following set of approvals. The important Cabinet Approvals are given as follows-
ii. The Cabinet has approved- 
1. Extension of the term of the Commission to examine the issue of Sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes in the Central List till 31st May 2019.
2. Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill, 2018 for regulation and standardization of education and services by allied and healthcare professionals.

2. President Kovind 2-Nation Visit: Signed 4 MoUs With Vietnam

i. The President of India Ram Nath Kovind was on 2 nation Visit to Vietnam and Australia. On first leg he visited Vietnam. 
ii. India and Vietnam released a Joint Statement after extensive talks between Vietnam President Nguyen Phu Trong and Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.
iii. Following the talks, 4 MoU’s were signed between the two nations. The agreements are as follows:
1. The MOU between Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications and the Indian Ministry of Communications on cooperation in the field of Communications.
2. The MOU on cooperation between Vietnam’s Department of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Business Chamber in Viet Nam (INCHAM).
3. The MOU between the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Ha Noi, Vietnam and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India.
4. The Cooperation Agreement between Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

3. ICC Team Up With Google

4. Airports Authority of India Signed Pact With USTDA

i. State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) has inked an agreement with the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to develop a roadmap for modernization of its air traffic services.
ii. Air traffic services (ATS) comprises air traffic management (ATM) and communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS). The collaboration is aimed at developing a CNS/ATM roadmap for the AAI for modernization of the national airspace system (NAS).
5. India, Russia Finalize USD 500 million Deal for Construction of 2 Warships

i. India and Russia sealed a USD 500 million deal for construction of two missile frigates in Goa for the Indian Navy, sending a clear signal of continuing with high-level defence collaborations notwithstanding the US warnings of sanctions.
ii. The agreement for manufacturing of the two Talvar-class warships was signed between defence PSU Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) and Russia’s state-run defence major Rosoboron export under the government-to-government framework for defence cooperation.

6. President Kovind 2-Nation Visit: Exchanged 5 MoUs With Australia

i. After visiting Vietnam, President of India Ram Nath Kovind was in Australia on his second leg of 2-Nation visit. He met Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in Sydney. 
ii. He became the first Indian President to visit Australia. 5 MoUs were exchanged in the field of disability sector, education, trade-investment, scientific cooperation, agriculture and on higher education focussing on PhD by both the nations.
iii. Mr Kovind also unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parramatta in Sydney. The President addressed the International Business Summit 2018 organized by Australian Financial Review on Australia-India economic engagement.

7. HRD Ministry Launched Institution’s Innovation Council

i. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Institution’s Innovation Council through video conferencing in New Delhi. The purpose of formation of network of Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs) is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas.
ii. More than one thousand Higher Education Institutions have already formed IICs in their campuses to promote innovation.

8. ConMac 2018 Starts in Kathmandu

i. The Embassy of India in Nepal and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized an exhibition of construction equipment and technology-ConMac 2018 in Bhaktapur near Kathmandu, Nepal.
ii. Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth will inaugurate the event. Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri will be the Guest of Honour. 
9.  EAM Sushma Swaraj On A 2-Day Visit To Laos

i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is on a 2-day visit to Laos. During her visit, Ms Swaraj will co-chair the 9th Meeting of India-Laos Joint Commission on Bilateral Co-operation with her counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith.
ii. The two sides will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations covering areas of Defence, Agriculture, Trade and Investment, Science and IT, Energy and Mining among others. Ms Swaraj will also call on the Prime Minister of Laos, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith.

10. 12th World Congress on Mountain Medicine Held Kathmandu

i. The 12th World Congress on Mountain Medicine started in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The theme of the 4-day congress is “Mountain Medicine in the Heart of the Himalayas”.
ii. The flagship event of the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM) is being held first time in Nepal and hosted by Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN).

11. 4th Annual Ease of Doing Business in India Report Released

i. The ‘UK India Business Council Ease of Doing Business Report’ has been released. It highlighted that UK businesses’ perceptions of corruption as a barrier to operating in India has halved since 2015.
ii. An in-depth survey of businesses with a combined turnover of USD 122 billion, the report found only 25% of UK businesses saw corruption as a major barrier in 2018, as opposed to 51% in 2015. 46% of UK Businesses responding had plans to expand their investments in India in the next 12 months.

12. Malaria Cases Declined By 24% In India: WHO Report

i. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in a report stated that India is the only country to have recorded a substantial decline in malaria cases in 2017 out of the 11 highest burden countries worldwide.
ii. India registered a 24% reduction in cases over 2016, largely due to substantial declines of the disease in the highly malarious state of Odisha, home to approximately 40 percent of all malaria cases in the country. According to the report, India accounted for 4% of global malaria cases in 2017.

13. South Korean Kim Jong Yang Named New Interpol President

i. South Korea’s Kim Jong-yang has been elected as Interpol’s next president, edging out a longtime veteran of Russia’s security services, Alexander Prokopchuk, who was strongly opposed by the US, Britain and other European nations.
ii. Prokopchuk is a general in the Russian interior ministry and serves as an Interpol vice-president. Interpol’s 94 member states chose Kim at a meeting of their annual congress in Dubai. He will serve until 2020.

14. Millie Bobby Brown Named Youngest-Ever UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

i. The United Nations children’s agency UNICEF appointed Millie Bobby Brown, the star of hit Netflix series “Stranger Things”, as its youngest ever goodwill ambassador on Tuesday and the 14-year-old had a message for world leaders: “Listen to us.”
ii. The appointment – marked on World Children’s Day at United Nations Headquarters and the Empire State Building in New York – makes the 14-year-old UNICEF’s youngest-ever Goodwill Ambassador.

15. Voreqe Bainimarama Sworn in As Fiji’s Prime Minister

16. MAHE Wins International Green Apple Silver Award

i. Manipal Academy of Higher Education won silver in the International Green Apple Award for Environmental best practice 2018. The award was received by Derrick I. Joshua, Assistant Director, Environment Sustainability, MAHE at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, London.
ii. MAHE was selected for the award from 800 global nominations which competed to pick the greenest individuals, companies, councils and communities.
17. CSE Wins Indira Gandhi Peace Prize

i. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has won this year’s Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, an award conferred by Indira Gandhi Trust each year on the late Prime Minister’s birth anniversary.
ii. The international jury for the awards was headed by former President Pranab Mukherjee. The CSE was established in 1980 under the leadership of the late Anil Agarwal and is presently headed by Sunita Narain.

18. Wasim Jaffer Becomes 1st To Touch 11,000-Run Milestone in Ranji Trophy

i. Veteran first-class cricketer Wasim Jaffer became the first Indian batsman to touch the 11,000-run figure in the Ranji Trophy. The Vidharbha batsman achieved the milestone during the third-round match against Baroda in Nagpur at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium, Nagpur, Maharashtra. 
ii. The cricketer had made his first-class debut in 1996-97. The former opener had made his international Test debut against South Africa in April 2008. He has played a total of 32 Tests in his international career scoring 1944 runs with an average of 34.11 which also includes five centurion knocks.
