About Karnam Malleshwari

Karnam Malleshwari is a retired weightlifter under the 54kg category who brought many accolade to the nation by winning a bronze medal in 2000 Sydney Olympic and registered her name in history. She is still the only and first Indian woman to achieve this feat. She is the woman of substance who fights against all the odds and went on to pursue a male-dominated sport. She is a two-time world champion in weightlifting and had won two silver medals in Asian Champion. She had also won Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honor in 1995. Not only this, but she is also a Padma Shree awardee.
