AIBD Unanimously Extends India’s Presidency For One More Year

AIBD Unanimously Extends India’s Presidency For One More Year: India has been granted a one-year extension to continue serving as the president of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD). At the two-day General Conference held in New Delhi, all of the AIBD member nations unanimously decided this.

47th AIBD Annual Gathering: Key Points

  • New Delhi hosted the 47th AIBD Annual Gathering or 20th AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings.
  • Discussions and idea-sharing sessions centered on “Building a Stronger Future of Broadcasting in Post-pandemic Era” took place at the general conference and related meetings.
  • All participating countries and member broadcasters promised to collaborate towards a sustainable broadcasting environment, cutting-edge technology, and high-quality content.
  • Additionally, a five-year plan for cooperative initiatives and exchange programs was finalised.

Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD)

  • AIBD is a distinctive regional intergovernmental agency of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of the advancement of electronic media.
  • The organisation was established in 1977 and is supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
  • There are now 26 full member nations, which are represented by 43 organizations and 52 associate members.
  • President of AIBD is Mayank Kumar Agrawal.
  • The Government of Malaysia hosts it, and its secretariat is in Kuala Lumpur.
  • The goal of the AIBD is to create a dynamic and unified electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through the creation of policies and resources.

United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP)

  • The most inclusive intergovernmental forum in the Asia-Pacific area is the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The Commission encourages collaboration among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in an effort to find answers to the problems related to sustainable development.
  • ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.
  • The ESCAP secretariat supports regional agreements, national development goals, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by producing knowledge that is action-oriented and by offering services related to technical assistance and capacity building.
