Ratio is defined as the comparison of two quantities by the process of division method  between two numbers. Age is a concept where we can apply the concept of ratio to simplify our question and to complete it in less time. Ratio is a concept that can be applied in any topic and in this space we will be learning the application of ratio on the questions of Ages.

Before diving in the topic of ages, let’s understand the basic of Ratio first. Ratio basically tells the relationship between two quantities. For e.g A/B signify that there is a certain relationship between them. This relationship can be used for comparison as well. If we say that A is twice as older than B, we can simply write is as A/B=2/1. Both of them means the same. Coming back to the concept of “Ages”. Q1. The average age of the mother and her three children is 19. The average age reduced to 10 years if the age of mother is excluded. How old is mother?

(a) 32 years
(b) 40 years
(c) 38 years
(d) 42 years

Ans- Average of mother and her three children=??? ?? ??? ?? ???ℎ?? ??? ℎ?? 3 ?ℎ??????/4
Sum of age of mother and her three children=19× 4 = 76 ?????
Similarly, sum of her three children= 3× 10 = 30 years
Mother age’s=76-30=46years

Q2. Twenty years ago, the age of father and his son in the ratio of 8:3. Presently, the father is only 127th times of his son then find out the present age of son?

(a) 28 years
(b) 32 years
(c) 35 years
(d) 21 years

Ans- Let the present age of son =7?
Then the present age of father=12/7× 7?=12?
ATQ,
12?−20/7?−20=83

Sol.Let present age of A =7? years
And present age of B =12? years
Age difference always remains same
ATQ,
12? − 7? = 15
? = 3
So, sum of present age of A and B =7? + 12? = 19? = 19 × 3 = 57 years

Q4. 8 years ago, the ratio of the ages of Rachana and Archana was 4 : 3. If the ratio of their present ages is 6 : 5 respectively, what is the ratio of the sum and difference of their present ages?

(a) 11 : 2
(b) 11 : 4
(c) 11 : 1
(d) 11 : 3
(e) None of these

Sol. Rachana′s age/Archana′s age=6x/5x
8 years ago the ratio of their age =4/3
6?−8/5?−8=4/3
20? − 32 = 18? − 24
2? = 8
? = 4
Rachana’s age = 24 years
Archana’s age = 20 years
Required ratio = 44/4=11/1
