World Soil Day 2021: World soil Day is every year observed on the 5th of December with a motive to raise awareness regarding the importance of soil to the sustenance of life on earth. On this day we also aim to raise awareness about soil degradation. Just like every year this year too there is an allotted theme to World soil Day. This year the theme is Halt Soil Salinization. World Soil Day History

The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002 Took a step to observe a day with the aim of raising awareness towards soil degradation and its prevention. This day was further initiated by Food and agriculture organization under the leadership of the King of Thailand. The UN General assembly finally designated December 5 as the official World Soil Day in 2014.

World Soil Day Significance

Soil salinization and sodification is a threat to the ecosystem and is one of the most important problems at a global level. The main significance to celebrate world soil day is to promote and raise awareness regarding the importance of soil and how it maintains a healthy ecosystem on our earth. Various other issues regarding soil management and soil salinisation are also observed on this day for better agricultural fields in specific regions.
