Clearly, number of students in the class = (14 + 32 - 1) = 45.

Q2. Harish ranked 21st from the bottom and 11th from the top among those who passed an exam. Ten boys did not participate in the exam and three failed in it. How many boys were there in the class?

Solution:

Number of boys who passed = (21 + 11 - 1) = 31.

∴ Total number of boys in the class = (31 + 10 + 3) = 44.

Q3. In a row of boys, A is thirteenth from the right end and B is tenth from the left end. If in this row B is eleventh from the right then what is the position of A from the left?

Solution:

Clearly, A is 13th from the right and

B is 11th from the right end and 10th from the left end of the row

So, number of boys in the row = (11 -1 + 10) = 20

Now, A is 13th from the right
