Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. Fray :- दंगा
Meaning: a situation of intense competitive activity.
Synonyms: conflict, battle, clash, skirmish
Antonyms: truce, tranquility, accord, peace
Example: Soon the mob joined the fray, and began swinging at their opponents with clubs.
2. Scapegoat :- बलि का बकरा
Meaning: a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency.
Synonyms: victim, fall guy, whipping boy
Example: Even though Jim did not steal your wallet, you are still using him as a scapegoat to cover for your son’s thievery!
3. Accentuate :- बल देना
Meaning: make more noticeable or prominent.
Synonyms: highlight, underline, feature, foreground
Antonyms: understate, belittle, disparage, minimize
Example: The bright colored eyeliner will accentuate Ann’s beautiful eyes.
4. Sliver :- छोटा टुकड़ा
Meaning: a small, thin, narrow piece of something cut or split off a larger piece.
Synonyms: splinter, shard, shiver, flake
Antonyms: chunk, hunk, lump, slab
Example: A sliver of light under Cade’s door suggested he was already awake.
5. Derision :- उपहास 
Meaning: contemptuous ridicule or mockery.
Synonyms: mockery, ridicule,disdain, satire
Antonyms: respect, praise, applause, commendation
Example: Derision filled the classroom as the students spent more time mocking one another than they did working. 
6. Lampoon :- निन्दालेख
Meaning: publicly criticize (someone or something) by using ridicule, irony, or sarcasm.
Synonyms: satirize, mock, ridicule, parody
Antonyms: flattery, praise
Example: Ronnie maintains a popular blog that is basically a lampoon of the week’s television shows. 
7. Foray : धावा
Meaning: a sudden attack or incursion into enemy territory, especially to obtain something; a raid.
Synonyms: raid, attack, incursion, strike
Antonyms: abstention, idleness, laziness
Example: When she took her first bite of the spicy curry, she wondered why she hadn’t made a foray into Indian cuisine a long time ago.
8. Bolster :- आधार
Meaning: support or strengthen.
Synonyms: strengthen, support, reinforce, fortify
Antonyms: obstruct, discourage, decrease, undermine
Example: In order to bolster its profits, the computer company is cutting its workforce. 
9. Desiccate :- जुनून, या ऊर्जा की कमी
Meaning: lacking interest, passion, or energy.
Synonyms: castrate, damp, deaden, enervate
Antonyms: arouse, boost, incite, instigate
Example: That historian’s dryasdust prose desiccates what is actually an exciting period in European history
10. Exemplify :- उदाहरण देना
Meaning: to show or make clear by using examples
Synonyms: demonstrate, illustrate, instance
Antonyms: blur, confuse, perplex, obscure
Example: In your review you don’t really exemplify your points with specific examples from the novel
