Directions (6-7): Study the following information carefully to answer the given questions:

Like every year, most of the North- Indian cities were choked by particulate matter pollution due to crackers on the day after Diwali celebrations. Concentrations of fine particulate matter rose to levels that harm respiratory health in normal people and severely debilitate those with illnesses. Supreme Court of India enforced a ban on selling of fire crackers in Delhi for the first time. Levels of particulate matter in Delhi were considerably less than previous year but almost equivalent to that of 2015 which was also at severe levels.

Q6. Which of the following can be hypothesized from the above passage?
I. Only North Indian people are enthusiastic about Diwali celebrations
II. Ban on selling of firecrackers was effective in keeping the pollution levels within the permissible limits.

Solution:

In this question, we have to choose an option which can be hypothesized from the given statement.
Option I is not a correct hypothesis as burning crackers is just one part of the celebration.
Option II is also not a correct hypothesis as it is given in the statement that current year’s pollution levels were comparable to that of 2015 which was severe.
Option III is a correct hypothesis as severe level of pollution clearly suggests the failure of concerned authorities in controlling the pollution levels.

Q7. Which of the following negates the fact which is given in the above passage?
 I. Cases of people suffering from respiratory problem increased after country celebrated Diwali.
II. Another contributing factor in increasing levels of pollution in cities after Diwali was the poor wind speed which failed to disperse the smoke.
