The world art day is an event which is celebrated internationally on 15th April in order to promote creativity which exists in many forms and spheres. 15th April was declared world art day by the International Association of Art (IAA). This date was decided specifically in order to commemorate the birth of Leonardo da Vinci (15 Apr 1452 – 2 May 1519). Da Vinci was the symbol of world peace as well as the significance of art in other areas. The 1st world art day was celebrated in 2012 after the proposal sent by various notable artists like Liu Dawai of China, Anne Pourny of France etc., which was accepted unanimously by the general assembly.
There is a theme every year on which World Art Day is observed. World Art Day 2021’s theme is given by IAA/USA (International Association of Art/USA). The theme this year is ‘You’re Not Alone’. World Art Day looks to encourage people to take up arts and explain its wider scope. As the World Art Day website notes, “the turmoil our world is currently living through, needs the power that freedoms of thought and speech can bring to this tumultuous world. And who better to lead this effort than the artists of this world.” It is hoped that the day will help in spreading an international awareness of the arts.
