International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on the 12th of May on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing. This day is celebrated worldwide to mark the exceptional contributions of our nurses in society. This day has been celebrated since 1965 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN). This day is also celebrated to spread awareness about nursing as a profession. ICN to assist nurses everywhere distributes the International Nurses’ Day Kit. 8th May is also designated as National Student Nurses Day. “Nurses: A Voice to Lead-A Vision for Future Healthcare” is the theme for this year’s International Nurses Day.
A nurse is a backbone for the healthcare system of any Country. She assists doctors apart from taking care of the patients. They are brave and hold the courage to face the unknown which became blatant with the ongoing pandemic. They are leading from the front by working day and night for saving precious human lives. Considering the severity of the virus when the Citizens were urged to remain at home, they risked their lives for sake of ours and are burdened with the worry of their own family. They have seen humanity at its worst and continue to roll with the punches with fearlessness. Through this day let us all take some time to reflect on the services they provide and let’s appreciate or recognize their bravery.
