1. India’s Coal Production Increased By 11.66 % in November

India’s total coal production went up by 11.66 per cent to 75.87 million tonnes in November 2022 from 67.94 million tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of last year.
According to the coal ministry data, in November 2022, Coal India Ltd (CIL) registered a growth of 12.82 per cent, whereas Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and other captive mines registered a growth of 7.84 per cent and 6.87 per cent respectively.
Out of the top 37 mines in coal production as many as 24 mines produced more than 100 per cent and production of five mines stood between 80 and 100 per cent in terms of output.

2. TRAI Decides No Charges for SMS and Cell Broadcast Alerts During Disasters

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued Telecom Tariff (69th amendment) order 2022 on Tariff for SMS and cell Broadcast alerts disseminated through Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) platform during disasters/non-disasters.
During both disasters and non-disasters, the Department of Telecom (DoT) requested that TRAI provide a tariff for SMS and cell broadcast alerts and messages that TSPs will distribute via the CAP platform.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was set up by the Government of India in 1997 under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997.

3. Peru Gets its First Female President After Pedro Castillo is Impeached

Dina Boluarte became Peru’s first female president amid a political maelstrom when her predecessor and former boss Pedro Castillo was ousted in an impeachment trial and detained by police after he tried to illegally shut down Congress.
The South American country, Peru, has just seen a significant political upheaval. Pedro Castillo has been impeached and arrested and Dina Boluarte, a 60-year old lawyer, has become the country’s first female President. For the markets, the crisis in Peru may be important because it makes for nearly 15% of the world’s copper exports as per 2020 data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.

4. Meghalaya Government launches ‘Asia’s first Drone delivery hub for easy access to healthcare’

The Meghalaya government in partnership with startup TechEagle has unveiled Asia’s first drone delivery hub and network which is aimed at providing universal access to healthcare for the people in the state.
The project is aimed at delivering vital supplies like drugs, diagnostic samples, vaccines, blood and blood components quickly and safely to different regions of the state using a dedicated drone delivery network.

5. Maharashtra to Establish Separate Divyang Department

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the state will establish a separate Divyang department for the welfare of differently-abled persons with a fund allocation of 1,143 crore rupees.
It will formulate policies for the welfare of the disabled by taking into consideration the views of the stakeholders. He said that the decision in this direction was taken within only 24 days.
Welfare activities of Divyang people like education, training, and rehabilitation were so far taken care of by the state social justice department. The sections looking into issues of Divyang (differently-abled) people under the Social Justice and Special Assistance department will be clubbed to form the new Divyang Welfare Department.

6. Scientist K.V. Suresh Kumar appointed as Chairman & MD of BHAVINI

Distinguished Scientist of Department of Atomic Energy, K.V. Suresh Kumar has assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director of BharatiyaNabhikiyaVidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI) on 2nd December 2022 at Kalpakkam.
His tenure will be for three years. Suresh Kumar is a graduate in Chemical Engineering and joined Department of Atomic Energy at BARC Training School in Mumbai (29th batch) in1985.
The Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI) is a wholly owned Enterprise of Government of India.
Under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy incorporated on 22 October 2003 as Public Limited Company under the companies act, 1956.

7. NABARD named Shri Shaji KV as Chairman

K V Shaji has been named Chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). He formerly served as NABARD’s Deputy Managing Director (DMD) till May 21, 2020. He is an agricultural graduate with a PGDM in Public Policy from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad.
He spent 26 years in various roles at Canara Bank. In Canara Bank’s corporate office, he was in charge of strategy, planning, and business development. He also played a role in the merger of Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank.
He previously worked for the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Kerala Gramin Bank, the country’s largest regional rural bank. From 2013 until 2017, he served as the Chairman of Kerala Grameen Bank. Shaji KV is a Thiruvananthapuram native.

8. NSIC Signs MoU with Walmart

A Memorandum Of Understanding was signed between The National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. and Walmart Global Sourcing India Private Limited, to facilitate services to MSMEs in Walmart Vriddhi program.
Through this MoU, NSIC will be able to extend the NSIC schemes and other services to MSMEs which would participate in various Vriddhi programs. Moreover, the MSMEs would get the exposure to various advantages of gaining working capital, bulk procurement support etc. under various opportunities offered by NSIC.

9. RBI Allows Blocking of Funds for Multiple Auto-debits in UPI

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) enhanced the capabilities of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) by introducing a ‘single-block-and-multiple debits’ functionality, which allows a customer to enable a payment mandate against a merchant by blocking funds for specific purposes in his/her bank account which can be debited, whenever needed.
The single-block-and-multiple debits feature is expected to have multiple use cases in various segments, such as e-commerce transactions, investment in the secondary market and purchase of government securities using the RBI’s Retail Direct scheme. The RBI will issue instructions to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which runs and manages UPI, on this functionality shortly.

10. Bank of Baroda Wins EAG Laureate Award on Financial Security

State-owned Bank of Baroda on 6 December 2022 has bagged an EAG Laureate award in the International Olympiad of Financial Security held at Sochi, Russia on 10 October 2022.
The Eurasian group on combating money laundering and terrorism (EAG) is a FATF type regional which comprises of 9 members including India.
The 9 countries are: Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. EAG is an associate member of the FATF.

15. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver at Weightlifting World Championship in Colombia

Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu won silver at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia. She beat the Tokyo 2020 champion Hou Zhihua of China. China’s Jiang Huihua took home the gold medal with a combined weight of 206 kg.
Mirabai lifted a combined weight of 200 kg compared to Zhihua’s total of 198 kg. This was Mirabai’s second medal at the World Championships, having previously won gold in 2017 with a lift of 194 kg.

16. Aditya Mittal Becomes India’s 77th Chess Grandmaster

Sixteen-year-old Aditya Mittal has become India’s 77th chess Grandmaster during an ongoing tournament in Spain. The Mumbai player, who had secured three GM norms, crossed 2,500 ELO points mark during the sixth round of the ongoing Ellobregat Open tournament in Spain.
He drew the game against Spain’s No.1 Francisco Vallejo Pons to achieve the feat. Mittal earned his maiden GM norm at Serbia Masters 2021. Subsequently, he obtained his second GM norm at Ellobregat Open 2021.

17. SAARC Charter Day 2022: 8th December

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Charter Day is observed every year on 8th December. On this day in 1985, SAARC Charter was adopted in Dhaka, during the first summit of the group.

18. Oxford dictionary chooses ‘Goblin Mode’ as word of year 2022

Oxford Dictionaries said that “goblin mode” has been selected by an online vote as its word of the year. It defines the term as “a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.” In 2021, the Oxford word of the year was “vax”.
“Goblin mode” received 93 percent of the more than 340,000 votes cast, with “Metaverse” coming in second with 4 per cent. The hashtag “I Stand With secured” stood at third position. The voting for the Oxford Word of the Year took place between November 21 and December 2.

The national capital has got its first transgender councillor after Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP), Bobby Kinnar has won the civic polls from Sultanpuri-A ward. Bobby Kinnar (38) was given a ticket from Sultanpuri A (ward 43) seat.
