There are 13 lakh 69 thousand families in Patna in which 9 lakh 35 thousand people have been surveyed and the survey of the remaining families will be done within a week.

  • The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network witnessed remarkable growth in July 2023, setting new records in both transaction volume and value.
  • After a minor dip in June, UPI transactions surged by 44% year-on-year (YoY) and reached a staggering ₹15.34 lakh crore.
  • The number of transactions also hit a new high of 996 crore, a significant increase of 58% compared to July 2022. Market participants predict that UPI transactions will continue to grow, possibly crossing the 1,000-crore mark in the current quarter.

  • The 51st meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has decided to impose a 28% tax on the full face value of bets placed on online gaming, which will be implemented from 1st October.
  • The decision aims to provide clarity on the taxation of supplies in casinos, horse racing, and online gaming.
  • The GST Council recommended that the valuation of supply for online gaming and actionable claims in casinos should be based on the amount paid or payable to the supplier by the player, excluding the amount entered into games/bets from previous winnings.

  • In March 2023, the Indian government’s debt stood at ₹155.6 lakh crore, accounting for 57.1% of the country’s GDP. This represents a reduction from 61.5% of GDP in 2020-21, indicating efforts to manage debt levels
  • To tackle this,  government has  implemented various schemes to promote capital expenditure, economic growth, and welfare at both macro and micro levels.

  • The NTA has started the registration procedure of the applicants for the scholarship programme on the NTA’s website by 10th August 2023 under the YASASVI Scheme. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the application procedure for the scholarship entrance examination 2023 launched under the scheme of PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (YASASVI).
  • The NTA invited applications through its official website, yet.nta.an.in from July 11th, 2023 to August 10th, 2023. The government has planned to offer 15,000 scholarships ranging from Rs.75,000 to Rs.1,25,000 per year to class 9-12 meritorious students through the PM YASASVI Scholarship test.

  • A female cheetah named Dhatri (Tbilisi) has recently passed away at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. This brings the total number of deaths to nine, including six adult cheetahs relocated from Namibia and South Africa, along with three cubs born in India, all since March this year.
  • Under the ambitious Project Cheetah, Kuno National Park is dedicated to reintroducing the cheetah species to the region. To achieve this goal, a total of 20 cheetahs were brought in from Namibia and South Africa in two distinct batches.
  • Currently, there are 14 cheetahs residing in Kuno National Park, consisting of seven males, six females, and a female cub.
